We discuss predictions for the Prime Video series Three Pines season 1, episode 3, and includes the release date and where to watch online.

Prime Video has released the opening two-parter to their latest mystery series Three Pines, starring Alfred Molina as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. The second installment, “Whiteout Part Two” brought a conclusion to the murder case of CC de Poitiers. Armand had his team dig into the possible suspects and in turn, they revealed just how hated she was in the village. It was a gripping tale, marred by some rather odd dream sequences and literary motifs. Hopefully, future cases expand upon the crime elements and leave out the artsier bits. Here’s what happened in episode two of Three Pines:

  • Armand has the locals recreate the curling match to help him visualize the crime scene. He concludes that the killer could have easily gotten away with it, as all eyes were on the match.
  • His team look into their leads. Richard had financial issues. There’s no information on CC’s parents. Saul is acting rather suspiciously and there seems to be some connection between CC’s family and the Be Calm Center.
  • The Coroner’s report reveals that CC had a high dose of niacin in her system at the time of her death. Niacin can cause hot flushes, the killer must have spiked her drink to make her hot enough to take off her gloves.
  • Jean-Guy spies on Saul and sees him burning evidence. He goes to stop him and retrieves an incriminating hard drive. On this drive are photos of CC naked, as well as pictures from the curling match. One shows Richard handing CC her coffee.
  • Yvette discovers Richard’s financial woes and informs Armand that Richard is broke. They go to question him, but he is adamant he didn’t kill her. He loved her but hated what she had become. She was repeatedly awful to their daughter Crie.
  • Desperate for evidence, Yvette finds CC’s birth certificate. She was born Cecilia Longpre and her mother is called Emily. Armand goes to interrogate Emily, who states that she is in fact CC’s aunt. Her mother Eleanor was institutionalized after attacking CC. She died a year ago and then CC moved to Three Pines.
  • Pierre updates Armand on the Blue Two-Rivers case, she was spotted two days ago and seems to be involved in drugs now. Armand informs the family, but they won’t accept the news.
  • Yvette falls asleep whilst staking out Emily’s house. They find a video confession the next day, but Emily is missing. Armand finds Emily in the snowstorm and saves her life.
  • Yvette obsesses over CC’s boots and Armand has a brainwave, Emily didn’t mention the boots, so she can’t be the killer, but the murderer must have confessed everything else to her. He believes Crie is the killer. Armand goes and arrests her. Crie admits to the killing and adds that she saw CC kill her own mother too.
  • Armand returns to Police HQ and sees Blue’s mother Missy on the roof. She commits suicide, jumping off the roof before Armand can save her.

Three Pines season 1, episode 3 release date and time

Episode 3 is scheduled to release on Prime Video on Friday, December 9th, 2022, at 12 am ET. Episode 3 is titled “The Cruelest Month Part One” and will have a run time of 53 minutes.

Where to watch online

Viewers worldwide can catch Three Pines season 1, episode 3, with a subscription to Prime Video on the date mentioned above.

Predictions

  • It is unclear yet whether each two-episode run will contain a new murder investigation or if this is just the start of a much broader story. The Blue Two-Rivers case seems to be running through the narrative regardless. Will all these mysteries interlink? Is this just the start of a larger narrative?
  • Armand will continue to obsess over the Blue Two-Rivers case and he may even start to do his own sleuthing on the side. He might follow up Pierre’s leads and interrogate the drug dealer who met with Blue two days prior.
  • Three Pines looks to be a mysterious village with plenty more secrets. I don’t think Armand’s work in the village is over just yet.

I enjoyed Louise Penny’s novels and these episodes on Prime. I think the foul language is totally unnecessary and is the only drawback.

I’ve read all the books in the series ( half way through the most recent released November 29). This first episode appears to be a new story. How involved is Louise Penny?

Loved the new series! Hello, have these people who left comments read her books they say so but the the fowl (haha) language is peppered throughout her books. The indigenous story was one book they are just spreading it out. CC with the baby seal boots was not my favorite book but the new series glossed over the worst
