We discuss whether there will be a Lady Chatterley’s Lover 2, a sequel to the Netflix film Lady Chatterley’s Lover (2022), and will contain spoilers.

Who doesn’t love a steamy love affair, especially when it’s a period piece? Lady Chatterley’s Lover is about an unhappily married aristocrat who begins a torrid affair with the gamekeeper on her husband’s country estate, per the IMDB synopsis. The film is based on the book by D.H. Lawrence of the same name. Netflix has leaned on making strong book adaptations after the success of the To All the Boys trilogy. Book readers flock to Netflix because they know the next young adult fiction, romance, or even fantasy novel will be turned into something wonderful.

It’s always difficult to adapt a book to a screen, and the most important thing has to be the location setting for a period piece. It has to feel authentic to the period, and the cinematography has to add to the texture of it as well. The film also felt like a dream sequence with the way it was filmed for Lady Chatterley’s affair. Being unhappy can lead to some questionable decisions, and she ultimately turns to another man who does make her happy.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover 2 sequel potential release date

Since the book was released in 1928, D.H. Lawrence never made a sequel to it. But that doesn’t mean Netflix won’t try to make a second film if it becomes successful on the platform. This film began filming at the beginning of 2022 and could take another year or two to get made if it does gain some traction on the site.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover sequel plot: what could Lady Chatterley’s Lover 2 be about?

In the end, Connie Chatterley (Emma Corrin) does end up with Oliver (Jack O’Connell). She asks her husband for a divorce and goes on with her decision. Things do get complicated when Connie becomes pregnant with Oliver’s child. She runs off to Venice with her sister and plans to raise the baby with Oliver in the future. The sequel could be about Connie raising her child with Oliver by her side, but she gets bored with motherhood. She then tries to have another affair with someone else that could leave Oliver completely torn.

Connie doesn’t like the person she has become as a mother because she has lost her sense of self. Her identity is completely intertwined with that of her baby, and she doesn’t know how to move forward. It could definitely be an exploration of agency and motherhood that would work well for the character of Connie. Especially considering that she has had a tough time in relationships because of how she thinks of herself and the journey of a woman.

Therefore continuing the controversy that D.H. Lawrence would have wanted for the character of Connie in regard to sexual liberation.
