We discuss 10 Animated TV Shows like Chicago Party Aunt you must watch. Add these recommendations to your watchlist.

There has been an abundance of Netflix Original Series that have flown under the radar, and that’s because Netflix has been doing some questionable things with their marketing. If you haven’t heard of Chicago Party Aunt, then it’s because it got lost in the mix of other popular animated series, i.e. Big Mouth and Human Resources.

Netflix has dabbled in many different forms of animation, especially with their adult content, and this series is just like that. It follows Diane Dunbrowski, who is always the life of the party, and also known as the “Chicago Party Aunt”, as per the synopsis on IMDB.

For many millennials, marriage seems to be out of the question or even a fleeting thought because of how life has unravelled for them. Being the fun aunt or cool uncle has been the go-to for many millennials, and it feels like this show is built for them.

The following series on this list are all adult-themed animated series that deal with the tough subject matter in a different light. It’s not always about growing up, but it’s about adulthood and surviving everything you’ve gone through while moving forward and building a better life.

10 Animated TV Shows like Chicago Party Aunt you must watch

Big Mouth (2017)

If you love Nick Kroll and John Mulaney then this Netflix Original series needs to be on your priority list. The series highlights actual moments Mulaney and Kroll experienced in middle school and it explores sexuality and growing up. Many have criticized the show because they are children being put in these sexual positions, but it has adults voicing the characters. When watching the show many can connect with the characters because, at that age, hormones are barely understood, let alone acted on. Puberty has happened between the ages of 10-13, so it’s natural that these conversations about sex and gender need to be had on screen.

Human Resources (2022)

With the success of Big Mouth, Kroll and Mulaney created an extension of their show with other characters that help humans develop. It is essentially a workplace comedy that has the hormone monsters, the love bugs, and the shame monsters all come together as they try and help everyone. It’s nice to get a bit of a backstory with the characters who alter the emotions of the kids in Big Mouth because they truly cause some destruction.

Archer (2009)

For a little while, after Family Guy kind of took a dive content-wise, Archer came onto the scene and was flying under the radar for a little bit. Once it popped up on Netflix in its early days, that changed. Covert black ops and espionage take a back seat to zany personalities and relationships between secret agents and drones. The series is hilarious because it takes the James Bond-esque nature and flips it on its head. It’s funny because of Archer’s unconventional tactics as a spy and his relationship with his mother.

The Simpsons (1989)

When it comes to adult humour, The Simpsons was the best cartoon to ever do it. It was never for children, but young kids still tuned in because it was animated. The humour has been going strong and the demographic has always been open. The young kids won’t understand all the jokes, but the adults will appreciate it as a whole. Whether there’s slapstick comedy or the family addressing some issues, it has always been family oriented and fun to watch.

American Dad (2005)

When Family Guy became a bit stale, Seth McFarlane turned his attention to a brand new series called American Dad! at times they rivalled each other. This series highlights the random escapades of Stan Smith (McFarlane), a conservative C.I.A. Agent dealing with family life, and keeping America safe, all in the most absurd way possible, as per the synopsis on IMDB. McFarlane takes a stab at the government in this all-American series with a twist.

Family Guy (1999)

It’s hard to believe that Family Guy was released almost a decade after The Simpsons, which means that it was the only animated adult series to rival it. What McFarlane did was take the famous 70s show All in the Family and modernized the characters. In the beginning, for its first 10-season run, Family Guy was one of the funniest shows on television but sometimes the humour was a bit too dark and risqué for a new generation. Family Guy hasn’t changed with the times and used to be a show that would be a fun late-night watch, but now it seems that no one really talks about it.

The Harper House (2021)

An overconfident female head-of-a-household as she struggles to regain a higher status for herself, and dor her family of oddballs, after losing her job and moving from the rich side to the poor side of an Arkansas small town, as per the synopsis on IMDB. It’s nice to see a female-led adult-animated series for once and to see how she navigates this odd form of motherhood bestowed upon her. Of course, there are some weird situations that do happen which makes it entertaining. This is a win for Paramount Plus.

Bob’s Burgers (2011)

To see the trajectory of the long-running adult-animated series, Bob’s Burgers came out at a time when the shows that were on television started to become stale. It’s almost a 10-year cycle and then something new comes to rival it. The humour in this series is very different and is unlike anything we’ve seen before. The Belcher family has very odd tendencies but the show also deals with mental health, schooling, and running a business.

Central Park (2020)

Just like Netflix, Apple TV Plus started with its own adult-animated series on its streaming service. Central Park is an animated musical series that tells the story of how a family of caretakers, who live and work in Central Park, end up saving the park and basically the world, as per the synopsis on IMDB. Add a musical element with some of the best voices in the business like Josh Gad, Titus Burgess and Daveed Diggs sets this series apart from the rest.

The Boondocks (2005)

The Boondocks had a very special run and is considered an underrated program by many. It has a specific kind of humour that only some people will appreciate because it deals with many social issues. It’s about the adventures of two boys, Riley and Huey Freeman, who undergo a culture clash when they move from Chicago to the suburbs to live with their grandfather, as per the synopsis on IMDB. It’s hilarious to see how mouthy the young boys are after the move and how their parents deal with them.
