Episode 4 of Lupin Zero tested the friendship between Lupin (voiced by Tasuku Hatanaka) and Jigen (voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi). Luckily, in the end, it proved to be stronger than any quarrel between the two boys could ever be. Their attempt to create a secret base at school was hilarious but also solidified the fact that the boys can make it through anything together. It was fun to see them back in action, as Lupin seems to work best when he has a partner in crime who also keeps him in check.
- The episode opens with Lupin and Jigen causing an explosion at the fireworks factory, where Lupin accidentally seems to mess up Jigen’s lighter, much to his annoyance. As they make their escape, they’re confronted by Lupin’s housekeeper, who scolds him for leaving the mansion without permission.
- At school, Lupin tells Jigen that he wants to run away from home. When Jigen asks where he intends to live, Lupin gets the bright idea to set up a secret base on the school campus. Jigen agrees, and Lupin begins trying to construct hideouts.
- Their first hideout seems perfect until Lupin attempts to add a bath, causing several nearby classrooms to flood. They try relocating under the stairs and several other places before Jigen finally gets frustrated and forces Lupin to draw out a plan on paper this time.
- Lupin draws out a new plan for a hideout, which Jigen notices include a way to flow liquor right into their base. Lupin explains while snooping around for a new space, he found a secret US army whiskey smuggling operation. He intends to hook up their new hideout right to the supply of whiskey.
- Jigen does not seem on board with the idea, causing the two to fight. That night as Jigen smokes a cigarette by the river, he overhears and follows two soldiers right to the whiskey pipe. He notices that Lupin was stupid enough to write their names on the pipe, confusing both him and the soldiers.
- The next day Jigen goes searching for Lupin but cannot find him. He receives a note from Lupin telling him to try harder, and we see that Lupin has created a new hideout on the school campus.
- That night, Lupin goes into the sewer to try and hook up the whiskey pipe to his new hideout, only to get caught up with soldiers. They attempt to kill him, but Jigen manages to save him.
- As the two attempt to escape, they begin fighting again, causing Jigen to accidentally shoot the whiskey pipe. It leaks right onto him and Lupin, getting them both drunk.
- Drunk on whiskey, the two manage to trick the US soldiers by attaching Lupin’s jacket to a string and moving it, so the soldiers shoot at it. The shots manage to hit the whiskey pipe, causing it to leak until it eventually bursts. Lupin and Jigen then ride the wave of whiskey to freedom.
- Back at the hideout, the two are sad over their failed mission, but Jigen is pleased to see that he’s managed to get his lighter working again.
Lupin Zero Season 1 Episode 5 Release Date
Episode 5 is scheduled to release on HiDive on Friday, January 6th, 2023. Episode 5 is titled “The Main Who Operates in Secret” and will have a run time of approximately 25 minutes.

Predictions
Thankfully no one got hurt like I predicted last week. There was plenty of tension between Jigen and Lupin, but it worked itself out in the end. Next week’s episode looks like there will be far more at stake, with Yoko becoming a major part of the storyline once again. Seeing how she will fit in, and how they’ll get out of this, will surely be an entertaining experience to watch.
- Yoko looks to be heavily involved in the next episode. She seems to be in trouble, and I imagine she’ll get kidnapped. Lupin and Jigen will probably attempt to save her, getting themselves mixed up in the trouble.
- A lot of questionable men pop up, who look to be members of the mob or other questionable organizations. We know Yoko is involved in criminal activity, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see if she’d stolen something from a member of a criminal organization.
- It might be a long shot, but considering the title, the man who operates in secret could be Lupin’s father. We’ve only seen him once, but Lupin has yet to interact with him, so there’s still a chance he could pop up.
