What could happen in Jack Ryan Season 4 Episode 1? We discuss predictions for the first episode of Prime Video’s fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.
One of Prime Video’s flagship series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, has shot and completed its third season. The series has been a solid producer for Prime Video. John Krasinski has turned the role of the intellectual government agent into a series that acts as a thinking man’s thriller. However, where could the show possibly go from here? Well, with thirty-two books in Tom Clancy’s spy series, there are plenty of stories to pick from and tell. Except Krasinski and the company confirmed that the Prime Video series is in the spirit and the character’s name only. The series is “ripped from the headlines” and inspired by current events.
And the fourth season has been greenlit as a go. Unfortunately, there is rampant speculation that this will be the last mission to save the world for Krasinski. So, let the speculation begin. Ryan has dealt with incidents in the Middle East. A presidential overthrow in Venezuela. Even a conspiracy to escalate tensions between the United States and Russia back to Cold War levels. No story may be off-limits. With one exception, do not expect any issues with China. First, the Chinese market means too much to Hollywood’s bottom line. Second, I have little interest in any storyline that will contribute to the alarming amount of Asian hate, a disturbing trend that has spread across the globe the since the start of the pandemic.
Here are some ripped-from-headline moments in the past five years that we could see happening in Jack Ryan Season 4 Episode 1. However, we also cross-referenced Tom Clancy’s novels to pinpoint some areas of interest. Keep in mind the character has taken on the USSR in moments too numerous to add up at the moment. They addressed South America in Season 2. If you remember, Clancy previously wrote about a conflict with Columbia in Clear and Present Danger. The saturation of Middle East spy thrillers has run its course.
The only question left is, where is there left to go?
What could happen in Jack Ryan Season 4 Episode 1?
The military seized power in Myanmar just as the National League for Democracy (NLD) was beginning to start a second term in 2021. The army began to crack down on citizens, and uprisings took arms. The Clancy universe has previously told a story in Southeast Asia in Without Remorse. Couldn’t you see Jack Ryan on a mission with Greer and the latter complaining about the heat and humidity to add comic relief? The crisis in Myanmar has seen military violence against its citizens rise by 612% since the conflict. While the United States has no standing in competitions outside its jurisdiction, the state department’s stance is, “The United States supports a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Burma that respects the human rights of all its people.” And with the government investing over $500 million in humanitarian relief in the region, this clearly shows interest.
The crisis in The Sahal is persistent, expanding, and escalating instability. Per the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), the “conflict in the region has been largely driven by a jihadist insurgency centered in the states of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, which are most affected by the crisis.” Currently, per Business Insider, this is a region the Clancy universe has not approached. This also doubles as incredibly relevant to today’s modern conflicts. Kamissa Camara’s piece from the United States Institute of Peace says, “If Washington wants to play an effective role, it needs less counterterrorism, better diplomacy.” If that doesn’t sound like quintessential Jack Ryan, now what does?
The United States
While the Jack Ryan series has often focused on foreign terrorists, never domestic ones, think about what the United States has gone through over the past five years. A sitting president inciting violence over false claims the elections were stolen from them? The rumors of an election helped by a country that is the sworn enemy of the United States? A president that supported white extremists by saying there are good people on both sides? I could see a season dedicated to an attack on the United States with a conspiracy that could lead to the White House. Do you think the writer will ratchet up the tension in the first episode with an extensive series of character deaths? Will anyone like Greer or Mike November be killed off in the first episode for holding a secret Ryan now has to solve and catch their killer?
The Domingo “Ding” Chavez Effect
Now, let’s keep in mind there is a spin-off coming to Prime Video in the Clancy Universe. Michael Peña will take on the role of Domingo “Ding” Chavez, the character previously helmed by Breaking Bad’s Raymond Cruz in Clear and Present Danger.
With the introduction of a new character directly connected to Clear and Present Danger, which has a story about a Presidential coverup, I predict the first episode will have a significant character death. Why? This will draw the viewer in while investing in Peña’s Chavez with a story that will most likely combine foreign matters that lead back to the White House.
