With one of the biggest debut seasons of anime in the last few years, Chainsaw Man absolutely delivered the way many fans expected it would. It was easily one of the most popular shows of the 2022 Fall anime season, with consistently good reviews and rankings among fans. Like many others, Chainsaw Man has been one of my personal favorite shows of the Fall 2022 anime season, and I will be patiently waiting for the announcement of a sequel.
With a performance as good as this, it would be impossible not to give Chainsaw Man a second season, but anime fans know that no matter how good a series is, sometimes it can be years before another season is produced, if ever. However, considering that most people are sitting on the edge of their seats anticipating the status of season two, it is doubtful that fans will be waiting long.
Will there be a season 2 of Chainsaw Man – renewed or canceled status
Chainsaw Man season 2 has yet to be confirmed. However, that does not mean it has been canceled. In fact, all that really means, in this case, is that a second season has not yet been announced to be in production.
It is not uncommon for anime series to announce another season, or even a movie, at the end of the finale episode. Sometimes anime studios will host special events or post countdowns to hype up the excitement before dropping an announcement. With anime, how and when a sequel is announced always varies from series to series. With an anime as popular as this, Studio MAPPA is likely waiting for a special day to make things official.
Considering the Chainsaw Man manga is still running, there is plenty of content for Studio MAPPA to adapt. The first season, which will conclude with 12 episodes, has only covered about 4 arcs so far. That leaves another 4 arcs in part one of the manga alone. If I had to guess, those arcs will likely make up season 2 of the anime if it only turns out to be 12 episodes.
The chance that Chainsaw Man does not get a sequel season is improbable right now. The series carries a respectable 8.8 on My Anime List, making it one of the highest-rated shows on the popular ranking website. With that in mind, though, as fans, we still have to be realistic with our expectations. Most people seem to predict Chainsaw Man season 2 will premiere during the Fall 2023 anime season at the earliest, and I am inclined to agree. Knowing the quality of Studio MAPPA animes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the series come out even later, during the Winter 2024 anime season or even the Spring 2024 season, depending on whether or not the episode count gets raised.
While I can’t say for sure when fans will be getting a Chainsaw Man season 2 announcement, I doubt Studio MAPPA wants to waste this momentum, and I’m sure we can expect to hear an update in the coming weeks.
