Is the Netflix movie Mission Majnu based on a real true story? We discuss the Netflix film and whether it’s based on true or actual real events.

Mission Majnu is a Bollywood spy thriller with plenty of intrigue and adventure. Starring Rashmika Mandanna and Sidharth Malhotra, the film was beset by delays and lost out on a cinematic release last year.

The film will premiere on Netflix on January 20th, 2023, and before it is unveiled, we take a quick look at the premise and the remarkable story that the film is based on. The film is eagerly anticipated, with both of the leads being incredibly popular, so the frustration felt by fans as it was held back was quite high.

The following article will touch base with some of the details behind the production and also offer some speculation about the reasons behind the off-screen drama.

Is the movie Mission Majnu based on a real true story?

Yes, the film is based on a true story of an important covert spy mission that took place in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The mission was known as an untold story, despite the importance of the nature of the operation, that was said to have changed political relationships afterward.

the film was written by Parveez Shaikh. Aseem Arrora and Sumit Batheja all three writers have a lot of experience writing for both film and TV, so it would appear that the three writers involved may have been brought on to work extensively on the script. For three writers of this caliber to all work on the same project may insinuate that the script was reworked, and this may be part of the reason for the many delays that the film experienced.

However, with many other properties, such as Maidaan, and Doctor G, also missing their deadlines, it is most likely that the delays started with the Covid pandemic. Another major factor was the release of Jurassic World Dominion. This blockbuster was to be released in June 2022, and this clashed with Mission Majnu, which had already been rescheduled for the same date. In an effort to avert a clash for the two films, it was decided that Mission Majnu would be held back, resulting in its eventual release in January 2023.

What is Mission Majnu based on?

The film is inspired by a true story that happened in 1971. The extraordinary events of a real-life operation by an Indian spy on Pakistan land is thought to be one of the most important moments in espionage for India, and the story has been long anticipated by fans of Bollywood movies. Agent Amandeep Ajitpal Singh goes by the name Tariq when working for RAW in Pakistan. RAW is part of India’s Research and Analysis Wing, and the agents that work in this field are often inserted into dangerous situations, usually without immediate backup, making their operations particularly dangerous.

This mission that took place in the 70’s was based on India’s investigation and infiltration of Pakistan’s nuclear facility. The eventual goal was to amass enough information to essentially make their nuclear program ineffective. Obviously, due to the nature of the mission, a lot of liberties have been taken to fill in the gaps and to make the film as entertaining as possible, but the basic premise is based on a real and very dangerous operation. It would seem most likely that Mission Majnu may mirror the real-world Operation Kahuta.

This mission saw agents trying to get information from the area in the Rawalpindi district, where a German metallurgist was working on what was known as “The Islamic Bomb”. In a truly incredible setup, agents of RAW were able to ascertain that were working on the bomb often used the same barber’s shop. Following the scientists to the shop, they managed to take samples of their hair and send them to be analysed. When the samples confirmed traces of radiation, they knew that Pakistan was indeed working on nuclear-based weapons.

The film has been portrayed as the untold story of India’s most covert operation and the after-effects of the mission were to lead to a transformation of the politics between India and its neighboring nation in the 1970s. How much of the screenplay will be factual has yet to be seen, and we imagine that there will be a lot added to make the film more exciting, but the basic premise has inspired the events that happen in this movie. What seems certain though, is the film wants to bring attention to often hidden agents that often risked their own lives to protect their country.

What is the next movie of Rashmika Mandanna?

Star of Mission Manju Rashmika Mandanna is currently working in Mumbai on her next film Animal. This is another action-adventure film for the performer, and the film is hoping for a release late in 2023. Rashmika has replaced Parineeti Chopra who was originally cast for this part. Mission Majnu was intended to be her first Bollywood movie, but the delays that the film experience meant that her next film Goodbye, was released before Mission Majnu, making that her first Bollywood film.

Rashmika is certainly in demand, currently filming Animal while promoting Mission Majnu and her other recently completed movie Varisu. This film, which Rashmika also stars in, is a family-based drama that will be released on January 12th, 2023 in India. It is the story of Vijay Rajendrum whose life is turned upside down after the death of his stepfather. There seems to be no stopping Rashmika, who has been lovingly bestowed the title “The national crush of India”. Rashmika Mandanna also has two more upcoming films that fans are no doubt waiting to see. One is a sequel to a previous release Pushpa The Rule Part Two which is currently still in production, and Suzhal which is currently just in pre-production.
