Summary

Things do not get any easier for Bell’s party this week, even with the floor boss defeated. Despite the false moments of reprieve in this captivating episode, the tension and danger are constantly rising, making it impossible for the viewer to relax fully.

We recap the HiDive anime series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 Episode 15, “Ignis: Flame,” which contains spoilers.

For a brief moment last week, viewers saw Bell’s (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) party breathe a sigh of relief after defeating the Amphisbaena. Of course, it didn’t last long as they immediately found themselves heading toward the lower floors to locate a trapped Bell. While things are already looking bleak, what the party does not realize, is that Bell is even further down in the trenches of the dungeon than they thought. With both him and Ryuu (Saori Hayami) injured, we can only hope that his friends make it time to find them before the Juggarnaut does, or worse.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 Episode 15 Recap

The episode opens with Ryuu’s memories of her time in the Astrea family. They tease her at first, before discussing intel on Evilus and receiving orders to go down to the 27th floor. Ryuu panics as she remembers this is the very mission that gets her familia killed.

As Bell looks down at a sleeping Ryuu, a Skull Sheep appears. Knowing the lower floors’ monsters are more intelligent, he holds out his hands as a threat, and the Skull Sheep backs down.

What is the Hephaestus Familia doing in the dungeon?

The Hephaestus Familia looks over the debris left behind by the Amphisbaena and assumes they are too late to help Bell’s Party. Still, they decide to travel further into the dungeon in search of adventurers.

Bell’s party vs. the dungeon

Meanwhile, Bell’s party is engaged in a fight with more monsters than they can handle, and it just seems to get worse. After defeating the current hoard, they wonder what to do next. There is nowhere to head back up until the dungeon repairs itself, so they have no choice but to locate Bell and take shelter on a lower floor. Just then, several monsters, including Kelpie, Lamias, Afancs, and Dodolas, begin to spawn in front of them ahead of their usual floors.

The party launches a full attack. As Welf is knocked into a wall, he notices chunks of ore from the lower floors falling off. He grabs the ore before quickly returning to battle. Ouka runs forward to save an adventurer, who turns out to be Bors from Rivira. He says that every man he was with was murdered by a new species of monster he’s never seen before. He describes the Juggernaut before informing the party that he saw it attack Bell as well, and he is likely dead. Before they have time to truly process or mourn the news, more monsters appear, forcing them to run for it.

Is Bell Cranel Dead?

After finding a room to rest in, Aisha demands Bors retell the story of Bell’s death minus the “doom and gloom,” only facts. She asks if he saw Bell’s corpse, to which the man replies he did not. Although he does not think Ryuu’s healing magic would have worked on Bell, Bors cannot say for certain that he is dead either. With newfound hope, the party decides to continue their descent to the lower floors to find Bell.

Welf’s makeshift magic swords

Knowing he only has one use left on his magic sword before it breaks, Welf slowly begins to panic as he has no idea how he will protect anyone without them. As he tries to think of a solution, he remembers Hephaestus telling him that as long as he had fire and a hammer, he could forge anywhere. He decides to set up a makeshift workshop in the dungeon to forge more swords.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Season 4 Episode 15 Ending Explained

Although the idea of setting up a shop in the middle of the dungeon is dangerous, Welf insists he has the tools needed. Those, in combination with the Adamantite ore he found earlier, should be more than enough to craft something. This is the only way they will make it to the lower floors, he tells them, but once he begins crafting, he will not be able to move. This will require the party to protect him until he is finished. With some reluctance, the party agrees, forming a wall of protection around him.

This week’s episode somehow managed to make me feel like Bell and his friends were safe at times, even when I knew they weren’t. Not only could you genuinely feel the character’s relief, but also the rising tension whenever things worsened. It was a constant roller coaster that made it feel like you were right there in the dungeon with them.

While they didn’t let up on the action, it was nice to have an episode that sort of felt like a breather. This season has been nonstop with the fights and the drama since it came back, which has been exciting. However, this episode gave them a chance to develop the next part of the story and let some other characters shine.
