Summary

“Boo” is a visual feast, with the crew fully committing to the Halloween setting and aesthetics. Season four gleefully returns to its horror roots once more. Unfortunately, the script is a little lacking, happy to spell out the character’s moves and motives in an obvious manner.

We recap the Apple TV+ series Servant Season 4 Episode 4, “Boo,” which contains spoilers.

Halloween is the perfect holiday and the perfect backdrop for an episode of Servant, as our cast of characters roams the streets in spooky disguises. In “Boo,” Leanne (Nell Tiger Free) uses the festivity as a chance to scope out her hidden enemies and show the cult that she isn’t afraid anymore. While Leanne struts her new confidence, Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose) tries to remember Jericho’s first Halloween, and Sean (Toby Kebbell) attempts to win back his wife’s affections.

Servant Season 4 Episode 4 Recap

The Turner’s street is decorated for the occasion, fitted with pumpkins, artistically strewn toilet roll, and plenty of vulgar graffiti. We find Leanne contemplating her twisted nightmares, talking to herself alone in her room. She is the one who has dreamed of the dark shadows and she is worried it is a foreshadowing of painful things to come. Dorothy watches old news footage, reminiscing her heyday as the Queen of Halloween. And Sean’s there, still trying his darnedest to win over his wife, bringing her exquisite meals in bed, but she remains unnaturally cold with her husband. She says that she has changed, their relationship is dying.

How does Halloween cause Dorothy to question the past?

The nurses hunt out a Halloween costume for baby Jericho and dress him up as an adorable pumpkin. They show Dorothy her son’s outfit, but she isn’t too impressed. This rather innocent issue causes Dorothy to think back to Jericho’s first Halloween, but she can’t remember a single thing, never mind what he was wearing. Panicked, Dorothy searches through photo albums, although that specific period of time remains locked away from her. The nurses try to comfort Dorothy, saying that memories fade, and it’s just a part of the aging process. Yet Dorothy knows this is something entirely different – she is slowly starting to question her son’s past.

Meanwhile, Sean decorates the Turner’s home to please his wife, who normally loves Halloween. Julian comments on how these blatant attempts to win her over just won’t work. They both sided with Leanne, and they must live with that decision. The two cowardly men have chosen the unhinged nanny over their own family member, and Julian now realizes what a huge mistake that was. Sean is slowly coming around to the idea himself, but he continues to play the perfect husband. He dresses up and takes Jericho around the neighborhood, taking in all the visual treats on display.

Who attacks Leanne?

Leanne is out as well, dressed as a deranged doll, with her trusty dagger in hand. She’s growing more paranoid by the day and wants to use Halloween as a chance to scope out her enemies. There are new homeowners in the neighborhood to question and cult members stalking her every move. She passes her followers costumes and orders them to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity. There’s plenty of that in action on Halloween night. Leanne is followed by a masked individual, who pretends to be Tobe. She confronts this cult member, breaking their arm with glee, but it is revealed to be just an ordinary boy trying to scare her with a rubber knife.

Servant Season 4 Episode 4 Ending Explained

A ghostly individual roams the streets, watching Sean and Leanne throughout the night. The costume belongs to cult member Uncle George and he uncovers himself to a concerned Roscoe. Julian’s private detective friend became one of Leanne’s followers, but it is now revealed that he is actually a mole, working for the Church of Lesser Saints. Roscoe is worried about the current circumstances; Leanne and the gang have gone crazy. Uncle George admits, Leanne is infecting the others with her crazy and has even injured a child now. Roscoe wants out, but Uncle George urges him to continue helping. They need to stop her, and they need Roscoe on the inside, or else she will destroy this city.

An energized Leanne returns to the Turner home, expressing her new, confident swagger. She speaks with Sean, who is reconsidering his allegiances. Sean says he’s grateful for Leanne’s help, implying that her powers have made him famous, but he never wanted to lose his family or Dorothy in the process. Leanne fights back, stating that he made his choice, he needs to accept it, deal with it. Sean’s had enough though, he meets up with Dorothy in private and confesses. He doesn’t want to lose her, he is prepared to get rid of Leanne, whatever it takes. Sean’s allegiances now officially lie with Dorothy once again. Although, Leanne won’t leave quietly and is sure to battle back with all her power.
