The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 Episode 7 Recap

Channeling Studio Ghibli, we are introduced to this rather odd world, with a grand, mythical creature floating into view, appearing from within a fluffy, pink cloud. Keyleth can’t enjoy the scenery though; she is far too stressed. Grog, Pike, and Scanlan are missing, and they could literally be anywhere. She blames Umbrasyl for disrupting her spell, but Vax tries to comfort her, stating that she did her best and saved everyone’s lives in the process. The survivors inspect their new surroundings, taking in the brutal and beautiful Fey Realm.

They wade through a magical meadow, where the grass is hypnotic and glows. Scanlan mentioned that his vision of the Fey Realm was like a drug trip and the gang are feeling the effects in the present. Percy is in his element, having studied this realm in his youth, he smugly announces himself as an expert on the world and guides them forwards. Although nothing is as it seems in this foreign land. Objects and creatures appear to be mirages, transforming and morphing into other entities. They head through a mysterious plant and its tentacles attack Vax. Danger is all around them, but Percy still eagerly pushes onward.

Where did Grog, Scanlan, and Pike end up?

Meanwhile, Grog, Scanlan, and Pike exit their portal to find themselves in familiar surroundings. They haven’t journeyed to the mystical world of the Fey Realm, instead, they are in a mountainous part of Tal’Dorei. Pike is gushing blood and she attempts to heal herself. She orders Grog to put down the evil sword and they try to convince him to part ways with Craven Edge. Grog defends the sword though, even when it starts to drink from Pike’s blood. Craven Edge manipulates Grog, telling him they are just jealous. Grog looks set to attack his friends, siding with the weapon, but then begins to destroy the sword instead. He snaps Craven Edge in two, releasing a flood of blood that spurts out, swallowing Grog whole.

Who is Garmelie?

The gang appears to be walking in circles in the Fey Realm and soon come across a cheeky satyr called Garmelie (voiced by Billy Boyd). He is caught drawing rude pictures of the gang. He refuses to help and watches as the Vox Machina aimlessly struggles through this new terrain. They come across an upside-down waterfall and blob-like creatures start to attack. The blobs merge into one larger monster. Vax uses his super speed to fight back, but the creature is too strong. Bullets and arrows don’t seem to harm the beast and any wound just burns. Vax realizes that the creature is only after him and he allows the monster to chase him, distracting from the rest of the team.

What does Craven Edge do to Grog?

Back in Tal’Dorei, Grog awakens to discover all his muscles have been taken from him. It is Craven Edge’s parting gift. Scanlan drags a weakened Grog through the forest. Cue a hilarious montage as Scanlan and Pike duet, journeying with a lifeless Grog. He’s attacked by birds and wolves, while Scanlan and Pike appear to bond. Scanlan is seen as a caregiver but ruins any spark with his usual flirtatious approach.

After the blob’s attack, Vex and Keyleth accidentally inhale their enemy’s spores and go on a drug trip of their own. This trippy, fun sequence utilizes the show’s unique animation style to astounding effect. Vex talks with Trinket and Keyleth bonds with nature, hugging the talking plants she hallucinates before her. Percy just watches in awe. He then runs after Vax and helps him to defeat the blob beast. Percy electrifies the water and kills the creature. Vax comments on how the monster was drawn to him and his armor, he feels pressured to journey alone, as the darkness consumes him. Percy states that he has Vax’s back, but a distancing is already taking shape.
