Lockwood & Co. is the latest Netflix supernatural teen drama, based on Jonathan Stroud’s beloved young-adult novel series. It was adapted for the screen by Joe Cornish of Attack the Block acclaim and was highly anticipated after lengthy gaps between its original announcement, confirmation that Netflix had acquired it, production starting, and the show actually debuting. But now it’s here! Between the eight episodes here, which collapse two of Stroud’s books, The Screaming Staircase and The Whispering Skull, and the potential for the future with more novels to adapt, fans have plenty to chew on.
The story revolves around an alternate reality London in which “The Problem” has reshaped society around ghostly “visitors” who haunt the living during the nighttime. These ghosts can only be detected and fought by children with “Talents”, which gradually fade as they enter adulthood. This means that kids and teenagers are thrust onto the front lines of the fight against these supernatural entities, and there are various agencies that have been established to train and organize these children. One of those agencies is the Fittes Agency, and another is the titular Lockwood & Co.
Who is Bobby Vernon in Lockwood and Co?
One of the characters that viewers have been curious about is Bobby Vernon, who is a member of Quill Kipps’s team as part of the Fittes Agency. He is the team’s researcher, which essentially makes him the Fittes equivalent of George.
Bobby gets little to do throughout the first season, though he tends to show up when the rest of Kipps’s team do. They feature most strongly in the season finale, when Kipps is kidnapped by Joplin and the rest of his team, with the help of Anthony, have to fight off Winkman and his goons.
Little is known about Bobby. One of the most noteworthy things about him is that Lucy Carlyle describes him as being “very short”.
Who plays Bobby Vernon?
Bobby Vernon is played by Paddy Holland, the younger brother of Tom Holland, which may very well explain why people have become so interested in his character. Tom is obviously best known for playing Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whereas Paddy is probably most recognizable from Apple TV+’s Invasion, in which he played Monty.
