Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 4 was one of the best of the season, with fans seeing new sides to Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura) and Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi). After showing off his impressive warrior instincts, Thorfinn found himself confused and remorseful. However, learning about his troubled past only seemed to upset Einar. It was interesting to see these characters in a new light while also getting a brief taste of action. If this episode will affect Thorfinn and Einar’s relationship remains to be seen, but hopefully, the fallout won’t be too negative.
- Snake chastises the guards for “bullying the slaves” as Thorfinn’s injuries are bandaged. He apologizes to Thorfinn for his men’s behavior before suddenly lunging toward him.
- Snake attacks Thorfinn. Thorfinn dodges and shocks everyone when he is able to hold his own.
- Snake tells Thorfinn that by avoiding his attack, his body is telling him it wants to live. Thorfinn can’t figure out what he would possibly want to live for.
- Pater patches Thorfinn up while Einar complains about how unfair the situation is. Thorfinn says there is nothing they can do, as “the strong ones kill the weak ones. This upsets Einar.
- Pater calms Einar down by apologizing and revealing that Arnheid notified him of what was happening.
- Thorfinn and Einar return to work.
- Einar thinks back to the fight and Thorfinn’s earlier statement about the strong killing the weak. He grows curious about Thorfinn’s past.
- Einar asks Thorfinn if he has ever been to war. Thorfinn grows irritated at first but then reveals that he does not remember how many people he has killed, as he was raised to be a warrior since childhood.
- Thorfinn asks Einar if knowing this disgusts him, but we do not see his answer.
- That night, Einar lies awake, and the more he thinks back to what Throfinn said earlier, the angrier he grows until he reaches out to strangle Thorfinn in his sleep.
- As Einar pulls back, Thorfinn finds himself stuck in a war nightmare. Finally, Einar wakes him up, which confuses Thorfinn.
- Einar grabs Thorfinn, wondering why he wishes to die so badly when things could be much worse for them.
- As Einar rolls over to get away from Thorfinn, Thorfinn thanks him for always waking him up from his nightmares.
- The episode ends with an older Canute riding through a cemetery.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 5 Release Date and Time
Episode 5 is scheduled to release on both Netflix and Crunchyroll on Monday, February 6th, 2023. The release time is 11:30 a.m E.T. Episode 5 is titled “Path of Blood” and will have a run time of approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
I was right in assuming Snake would test Thorfinn’s skills last week, but I could’ve never guessed he would do it quite like that. What he will do with the knowledge of Thorfinn’s skills will be interesting. However, nothing could be more curious than the return of Canute as viewers wonder what he’s been up to since the last time we saw him.
- The last time we saw Canute, Thorfinn attacked him. I have a feeling Canute is the reason why Thorfinn is currently in slavery, and that it will be confirmed next episode.
- If we’re seeing Canute, I imagine Thorkill is not far behind him. While we don’t know what Canute is up to just yet, I would not be surprised to find out if Thorkill was traveling with him as well.
