Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) controversial therapy techniques are unfortunately starting to backfire on him. He has patients rejecting his advice, refusing to cooperate, or worse, making problematic advances on him. It’s an absolute disaster in his professional life that is also seeping over into his personal life too. “Potatoes” shows Jimmy on the edge, as he lashes out at long-time neighbor and friend Liz (Christa Miller). This installment is the best yet, a life-affirming slice of heart-warming and hilarious TV that will make your day. Here’s what happened in Shrinking Season 1 Episode 4:
- Grace and Paul are both ignoring Jimmy’s calls. He caught Grace going back on her promise and Paul is angry with Jimmy for lying to him about Sean’s living arrangements.
- Sean then falls out with Jimmy. He refuses to talk about his time overseas or his PTSD. Jimmy asks his co-workers for help. Paul says that Jimmy has blurred the boundaries, making friends with his patients. He’s finally talking to Jimmy, but he refuses to help him out.
- Brian makes a surprise call to tell Paul that he has updated his will for him. He urges Paul to sign the medical power of attorney forms. Paul admits that he hasn’t told his daughter about his Parkinson’s disease yet, but he will today.
- Jimmy’s OCD patient makes a pass at him when he compliments her.
- Gaby and Alice have a heart-to-heart. Alice tells Gaby that she lost her virginity to neighbor Conner (Liz’s son). She then tells Jimmy, who freaks out. He argues with Liz, banning her from his house.
- Paul meets with his daughter Meg, regretting the choices he’s made in life. He wants to spend more time with her but decides not to tell her about the Parkinson’s disease just yet. He signs all the paperwork, except the power of attorney forms. Brian tries to persuade him to talk to Meg about his disease, but Paul declines this advice.
- Liz and Gaby make amends. They decide to get drunk together. Jimmy apologizes to Liz and joins the party as well. Although, he quickly leaves after they mention Alice fancying Sean.
- Jimmy and Sean make amends and fall asleep in the pool house. Alice swings by to talk to Sean, but he is asleep. She mentions how beautiful he is aloud, and Jimmy overhears.

Predictions
- Jimmy won’t be able to keep this news to himself. He will have to confront Alice about her infatuation with Sean. This will only worsen their relationship and make Alice resent Jimmy even more. It could even intensify her love for Sean. She may make a move on him.
- Jimmy’s patients are suffering because of their therapist’s poor decisions and over-involvement. His unprofessional behavior is affecting their mental well-being, something needs to change. Either Jimmy will ease off or he’s going to make matters so much worse. I sense more drama and chaos to come.
- Liz and Gaby will start to hang out more and Liz will give Gaby some dating advice.
- Paul will try to book some time off work so he can go and stay with Meg. I think he might change his mind at the last minute though.
