Summary

Mayor of Kingstown has become very repetitive and slow moving. In “Kill Box”, Mike repeatedly promises to get Bunny out of jail, whilst making the usual rounds and phone calls. The many separate plot points gradually move forwards, albeit at a frustratingly slow pace.

We recap the Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Episode 5, “Kill Box,” which contains spoilers.

Currently, Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) has two major problems to deal with, Milo’s (Aidan Gillen) cursed fortune, which is already leading to numerous deaths, and then there is the transferring of the four main crime bosses of the area from tent city to a completely different prison, one totally out of Mike’s control.

In Epispde 5, Mike tries to defuse both of these situations, while the crime bosses mount their own pressure. Prison life is tough and unpredictable, Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa) and the others just want to be released as soon as possible, before they are targeted or killed. Mike has his hands full in another installment of Mayor of Kingstown.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

Bunny and the others have been moved to a different prison. In the aftermath of this monumental shake-up, all the inmate’s family members descend upon Mike’s offices, wanting to know of their family member’s whereabouts.

Bunny’s cousin Rhonda jumps to the front of the queue though. Mike tries to reassure her in private, promising to protect her business whilst he attempts to locate Bunny and then get him out for good. How many times has Mike made the same redundant promise though? Those on the inside are starting to feel the same way, worried that Mike won’t pull through. These concerns are made painfully clear as Bunny watches an inmate committing suicide, jumping from a great height, with their innards splattered all over the floor.

On the inside, Carney is Mike’s eyes and ears. The prison guard informs Mike of the location of two crime bosses, but he is yet to find Bunny. Soon, the Crips leader appears out in the yard, gathering his own lay of the land. Raphael updates Bunny on the current state of affairs, they have an army on the inside, Bunny is safe. Suddenly, a man starts to cough up blood, in the throes of a seizure, out on the yard floor. Carney spots Bunny among the other onlookers.

What happens to Horace’s wife?

Whilst on the outside, Mike focuses on his other dilemma. Milo’s fortune has been dug up and the man who found it (Horace) has been murdered for his involvement. Mike worries that more bodies will start to pile up until the bonds are back in Milo’s posession. Kyle suggests Mike just lets the Russian mobster have his fortune and leave, but it is personal now, Mike can’t let his enemy win. Next, Horace’s wife is found dead. Mike fears she has blabbed; they need to move the bonds before they are taken from them.

Kareem speaks with the four crime bosses, who are all gathered in the same prison. He speaks openly, admitting that he wasn’t a part of Mike’s deal, he doesn’t know if or when they will be released, and he doesn’t care. Kareem demands that they get along during this transition, or else there will be serious consequences. Once Kareem has left the room, the Bloods leader gets candid himself, stating that he has had enough of Mike’s empty promises, he’s going to take back control.

What happens to Milo’s bonds?

In other scenes, Kyle McLusky is told he can go back to work. Mike checks in on Rhonda and leaves her his contact details. Joseph is sent to meet with Milo. The Russian boss is angry that Joseph killed the only two people who knew of the bonds’ location. Milo states that he’ll fix things, although he doesn’t kill or punish Joseph for his stupidity. A hooded man then steals the bonds from the evidence locker and Stevie updates Mike on this bad news. Mike orders Stevie to delete the tapes and find the culprit.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Episode 5 Ending

As the episode draws to an end, Carney manages to get a phone to Bunny in his claustrophobic prison cell. Mike is on the line, he promises to get Bunny out of prison (again) and to set him up with a business while he’s on the inside. They meet in person the following day, although Bunny is less than friendly. Mike tells Bunny not to do anything stupid, but the Crips boss has lost all faith in Mike now. He informs Mike that he’s going to do things his way, he is taking back control. Bunny cuts the conversation short and demands to be taken back to his cell. On the way, corrupt prison guards intercept Bunny and beat him badly, dragging him to solitary confinement, aka the kill box.

Who dies in “Kill Box”?

The episode ends with Carney explaining this unfortunate development to Mike over the phone. Bunny has been thrown into the kill box. Mike quickly calls Kareem to undo this problem instantaneously, but Kareem ignores his call. Then the Bloods leader is attacked in his own cell, where he is set on fired and killed.

It’s a brutal existence on the inside, and Bunny knows he needs to get out immediately. He may still need Mike’s assistance.

Too many angles left undone, Cast is great with Hugh Dillion yet Jeremy Renner in & out of car is a big yawn. Cut out the Milo story and stick to the main cast members. I am disappointed in each week with storylines all over the place. Let Bunny out & get back to the real stories that are interesting. Now Robert? Season 2 is all over the place.

Mike doesn’t have the “power”. His strength in Season 1 made me thirsty for Season 2 which I’m fast forwarding through. Writers were weak on this Season

Why is Kareem so worried about that guy who got sick in the yard at tent city? In the last episode Kareem is informed that the guy who threw up in tent city had died. Why is he worried?
