This article discusses the potential of National Treasure: Edge of History Season 2 and the renewed or canceled status of the Disney+ series. It contains some spoilers for the first season.
The two National Treasure movies from 2004 and 2007 were great hits for Disney and have very much stood the test of time, with a characteristically demented Nic Cage performance and fun, all-action adventure plots that harkened back to Indiana Jones without all the face-melting insanity that people forget was in those movies. But the property has been dormant since the mid-2000s, with plenty of rumors of a third film over the years, but nothing concrete materializing until recently.
With that third film apparently in production, National Treasure: Edge of History felt a little like a branding exercise for Disney+, a way to determine if there was still an appetite for the IP, and to target the Gen Z crowd at the same time. Here’s what we had to say about the eight-episode series in our review:
What’s most shocking about Edge of History, I think, is how little it feels like National Treasure. Sure, Harvey Keitel briefly shows up to set the plot in motion, but if he didn’t, you’d never really know the show is supposed to exist in the same universe as the films. It lacks the same vibe and flair and sense of energetic enthusiasm, instead working through the motions of a treasure hunt that feels too derivative of all the similar media that has been released in the intervening years. You can tell there hasn’t been a great deal of thought put into the actual treasure itself, the map to which is divided between three puzzle boxes supposedly divided between the Mayans, Incas, and Aztecs. Yet the action remains rooted in the U.S. all the same, despite not having the explicit connections to the Freemasons, the Founding Fathers, and the Declaration of Independence that justified the films being mostly Stateside.
Will there be a National Treasure: Edge of History Season 2?
Renewed or canceled status: TBC
At the time of writing Disney hasn’t officially confirmed a second season. However, this is to be expected so soon after the show’s initial run.

As with most streamers, Disney will be paying attention to a variety of metrics in order to gauge the show’s success. Since we don’t have any resources to determine whether the show has been widely watched, it’s difficult for us to tell. However, if the film is successful, which it is virtually guaranteed to be, interest in the franchise will be at a high, and another season would seem to make a lot more sense.
As with Willow, another Disney+ revival, National Treasure: Edge of History ends by setting up a second season as if it’s a foregone conclusion. That might be wishful thinking on Disney’s part, but it’s probably better to take it as a clue that we’re likely to see a continuation.
How many seasons of National Treasure: Edge of History are there?
At the moment, there is only one season of National Treasure: Edge of History. However, many fans will be hoping for more.
Our official prediction is that National Treasure: Edge of History will be renewed for Season 2 sooner rather than later.

I like the show. I just wish that all the episodes were released at once instead of me having to check when the next one has been posted. The last episode was a cliff hanger with Salazar being revealed. I hope there’s a 2nd season!

This show was amazing every Wednesday morning I would switch on the tv turn on the roku and watch the latest episode of it.
I would love to see Ben gates come back in the second season. The series is phenomenal I loved it!
My family and I had a great time watching this series. Fun, breezy, which made me revisit the movies. Wonderful crazy stuff. Great fun. I hope it’s done well enough for a second series and if Riley makes another appearance, let’s hope Nicholas Cage joins him for an episode. It would be great to see him as Ben gates again. Also, one of my favourite music sores ?
Bring on season 2 ASAP. Nuf said
Loved National Treasure: Edge of History. Totally enjoyed it. Loved it had theme music that reminded me if the original movies. The whole season was entertaining and I could wait for a new episode each week here in Australia. Bring on Season 2!!
I’m a big National Treasure fan still wish a third movie would happen since the cliffhanger in film 2. Anyway I found Edge of History and I’ve been hooked ever since the first episode. Hope a second season is going to happen. The cast is great the story line was great too. Just hoping the next season is released all at once and not week to week. Please hurry. Don’t make is wait to long.
I absolutely loveed National Treasure: Edge of History it was just awesome. Please bring on season 2. I can’t wait to see them go on another treasure hunt.
Kudos for the writers, actors/ and actoresses in Disney’s National Trasure TV series. Great writing and acting!

I loved this show, every Wednesday after work I looked forward to the next episode. Good for the whole family- I look forward to more seasons.
Our family has in the past always watch a Disney Family Show and this series is PERFECT! We love it!
I loved this series. It seems to have received a lot of positive input, so please produce a season two and on.
I have really enjoyed watching season 1 and look forward to a 2nd season. I would really like to see the 3rd movie as well since the presidents book has left me very curious as to what is on page 47.
I worked on this as background and it was the BEST hope to work again with them thank you for the opportunity ?
I grew up watching the National Treasure movies, and they always excited me every time I watched them. And though expecting a movie for years and not a series. And it not coming out was upsetting. The series National Treasure: Edge of History gave me the same nistolgic feeling I did as a kid. Could things be improved from season 1 too 2 yes, anything is worth improving. But with what they did, amazing doesn’t feel like it’s enough to say how well they did!
They need to have a season 2 this is such a refreshing twist too the already succesful franchise. The last episode left it open for another season plus they are coming out with a National Treasure 3 so having a this for the new, young and inspired treasure hunters and the seasoned hunters is such a fantastic mix the possibilities are endless.
I disagree with the writer of this article as far as this not feeling like the movies. This series was done amazingly well, and truly kept to the original movies feel. The best new family show I have seen in a long time.
hello we want a 2nd season and even a 3rd season go do it for the fans thank you
Loved the original movies and this season brought a fresh perspective on treasure hunting. It was very well written and superbly cast, especially Lisette Olivera, who dominates evert scene, even with the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones. The good guy vs bad guy was well played with some surprising twists and turns. If I were Disney I wouldn’t change a thing for a second season. Same production, same Director and same casting. Keep the magic going.
Like it so much I watched all 10 episodes in one day one after the next ! Please renew this show for more seasons !!!
Jag älskar denna typ av tv serier. Längtade efter varje avsnitt. Nu går jag in på Disney Chanel med jämna mellanrum för att, förhoppningsvis få se säsong 2. Längtar och väntar
Yes I agree please make another season this is one of my TV shows I would definitely be watching again over and over!!
My kids and I love this show! Why does Disney always make one season of an amazing show and then put off for years making a second season?
What the second season to start. Loved the first .
I am hooked on the show.ir has/had a little bit of everything. Intregue, suspense, romance, mystery. I was captured by the story. Loved the first 2 original movies and this is just as great as they are. Keep it going for more seasons. It’s a great show. PLEASE MAKE MORE SEASONS!!!!!!
Absolutely Loved this series!! Very true it lacks the original cast members but… it was well written, had humor, adventure, action etc just like the original National Treasure movies. Praying for Season 2 and would LOVE to see a release date soon. As for another National Treasure movie…. YES PLEASE!!!!
The show has thus far been an absolute nightmare. Bad acting, woke, far left ideology all through it, but mostly it’s just boring, and badly written. The puzzle solving, few and far between the timid, and unrealistic character building, usually happens through unlikely coincidence, rather than actual skill for the most part. I’m left not caring about any of the characters, except perhaps for the FBI characters, which is a laugh. The only enjoyable moments were Riley and the theme music. The original national Treasure movies were fun, whimsical, historical, and like Indiana Jones. This TV series is a woke, Gen Z, boring disaster that makes a mockery of the original. We should get a proper third movie with Nicholas Cage minus the woke stuff, instead of this trash show.
