The Resident is a medical drama following the staff at the Chastain Memorial Park Hospital, as they work tirelessly to solve complex medical cases with the patients that come through their door, as well as trying to solve the numerable problems outside the operating room, such as love triangles and the bureaucracy. Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi create the show.
The show’s sixth season came to an end on January 17, when the season finale was released on Fox. But as similar medical dramas like Grey’s Anatomy have been able to keep their show afloat for over 15 seasons, fans wonder if The Resident will be kept alive a little longer.
Will there be a season 7 of the Fox series The Resident?
Fox hasn’t renewed the medical drama The Resident for a season seven yet.
What might worry fans hoping for more is the reduced episode count in season six compared to other seasons and that the story wrapped up quite nicely in the hospital, as season six was intentionally crafted as a suitable series ender.
But the executive producer Andrew Chapman, recently discussed future ideas that he and the team had in a spoiler full interview with HollywoodLife, showing that they, too, are hopeful that the show is renewed for another season.
When asked directly whether the show had been renewed, he said that he genuinely didn’t know and that he doesn’t think Fox does either. He doesn’t expect a decision until April or May, so the audience probably won’t know for a few months.

What could The Resident Season 7 be about?
As for the potential plot line, we all want to see Leela’s wedding to Devon (and hope that he goes through with it this time) and see how AJ and Padma are finding co-parenting. A romance that blossomed in the sixth season was between Conrad and Billie, with them professing their love to each other in the final moments of the season.
One of the overarching plot threads of the season was hospital CEO Kit trying to keep the hospital afloat, as it was on the brink of closure due to financial issues. Thankfully, he prevailed and could keep the hospital doors open for longer with more funding. But this doesn’t close the doors to future bureaucratic problems for Kit, and many don’t involve money.
The Resident Season 7 Release Date
A release date for the popular drama has not been confirmed yet. However, as we wait for a potential renewal, we feel that The Resident Season 7 will be released around September 2023 if it is greenlit.

The Resident is fantastic and so many parts to play off of! I put it up there with The Good Doctor. I used to watch New Amsterdam but chose Resident over it. Please keep it going!!!!
