This article discusses the possibility of Triptych Season 2 and the renewed or canceled status of the Mexican Netflix series. It contains spoilers for Season 1.
Triptych is a Mexican Netflix thriller series based loosely on the true story recounted in the excellent documentary feature Three Identical Strangers. Needless to say, plenty of artistic license has been taken here to very mixed effect, but the novelty of the premise has already earned the show a fair amount of publicity.
Here’s a quote from our review:
That premise is as follows: Rebecca, a forensics expert with the Mexico City police, stumbles onto a disturbing crime scene. That might seem pretty par for the course in her line of work, but not when the victim has a scary resemblance to herself. Since the show’s title – the original non-English title is Triada – refers to things being in triplicate, it isn’t exactly difficult to figure out where this is going, which isn’t helped by a rote presentation.
With the show having generated a bit of buzz, plenty of viewers will have binge-watched the eight episodes and will be wondering what the future of the show might hold. Here’s everything we know.
Will there be a Triptych Season 2?
Renewed or canceled status: TBC
At the time of writing Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a second season of Triptych, and it’s unlikely that the story will be continued.
While not every loose end is dealt with in the ending, the underlying conspiracy is exposed, the villain is vanquished, and all three siblings survive. There’s no artistic justification for continuing this story, really, since all the major reveals were accounted for in this season.
Of course, money talks above all, and if Netflix see astronomical viewing figures, then we might be having a very different conversation. Is that likely? Well, you never know, but I’d imagine not. Netflix has no shortage of thrillers, and this same story — or at least the true version — was told much better and in a very widely-watched way in Three Identical Strangers. With the success of that movie perhaps giving away some of the reveals of this series, there’s a chance that viewers won’t make it to the end, and that’s an important metric that Netflix keeps an eye on.
Our official prediction is that there will not be a Triptych Season 2.
