Mike’s (Jeremy Renner) problems have finally gotten the better of him, and he decides to dedicate an entire day to drowning his sorrows instead of facing up to them. Parting with his keys, phone, and gun, Mike travels from bar to bar, completely off the grid. His friends and family search for him, while Ian (Hugh Dillon) gets up to some good old-fashioned police corruption in the meantime. It’s an odd installment that feels removed from the season’s usual tone, yet these differences are intriguing nonetheless. Here’s what happened in Mayor of Kingstown Season 2 Episode 8:
- Mike hands in his car keys and gun to a barmaid before traveling from one bar to the next, getting properly smashed.
- Bunny is released from jail and celebrates in style back at his base.
- Mariam and Kyle search for Mike, who isn’t answering his phone. Mariam constantly calls his phone, and Kyle drives around the neighborhood endlessly. He even asks Bunny for help. Bunny puts out some feelers to see if Mike has been targeted.
- Charlie eats rocks and asks to see the dentist. Ian drives him to this appointment, although he makes a detour on the journey. They visit Ben, who is testifying against Robert. Ian uses Charlie as a threat, ordering him to stop the investigation. Ben makes the call but is angered by this serial killer and Ian’s threat.
- They argue on the doorstep, and Charlie attacks Ben, killing him. They are forced to drag his body inside and stage a robbery.
- Mariam visits Jacob at the Juvenile detention center, but he has been transferred early.
- Iris meets with Milo, who is disappointed in her. He believes this work is beneath her; she is wasting her talents.
- Kyle, Robert, and Stevie celebrate the investigation being dropped. Ian arrives late to the party. Bunny phones Kyle; there is no target out on Mike.
- Mike meets Alison at a bar; her husband, Terry, died in the riots. They sleep together. Alison seems to be working with Mike’s enemies, though. She has Mike followed.
- Mike returns to the first bar and retrieves his car keys and gun. A car attempts to drive into and kill Mike, but he runs away. Mike shoots back and manages to kill the driver. Mike waits at a bus stop and is met by Milo.
