The most renowned detective since Sherlock Holmes now finds himself in prison and a victim of today’s cancel culture. Someone dug into the detective’s “unconventional” methods and posted them online. That’s unfortunate because he promised Corinne, a mother whose son went missing, he would catch the killer and then bring them to justice. This puts Luther in prison, and he is primarily discredited as an investigator. Luther is now not only haunted by the unsolved murder of a sadistic cybercriminal, but the killer also taunts him while in prison.
Luther: Fallen Sun Ending Explained
Who is the killer in Luther: The Fallen Sun?
This killer in Luther: Fallen Sun is David Robey. He is highly skilled with a knife and has a cunning, sadistic panache. He will play tearful screams of loved ones begging for their lives for family and Luther as he rots in a prison cell.
Even years later. And there is nothing like a failure that eats at our disgraced detective more. This forces Luther to call in some favors and start a prison break.
How does Luther escape from prison?
Luther escapes from prison by allowing an attack on his life by prison inmates. This is a risk Luther is willing to take. The inmates start a fire under his door that Luther blocks with his mattress. Luther charges them with the burning bed when they get the door open. This allows him to escape, which triggers a chain of events that opens the entries into the prison.
The catch is, however, that Luther has to fight his way out. He does this by going down multiple levels and beating up prisoners and guards.
What does Robey do to his victims?
Robey uncovers secrets on his victims, then blackmails them into doing wicked and heinous things. Robey has two underlings working in intelligence that hack into his victims’ lives. That is how he uncovered Luther’s unconventional and illegal methods.
In a scene in Piccadilly Square, he blackmails four people into jumping off buildings to their deaths. All in front of a large crowd of people. He even blackmails an inspector, Archie, into being his mole in the police department. (We never know what he did to be blackmailed, but when caught, he says it’s ironic because it wasn’t that bad).
Where does Robey keep the bodies?
It is not stated, but we think Robey keeps the bodies in a frozen lake on his property. Near the end of the film, Robey kidnaps Odette Raine’s daughter. When they arrive, while walking through a frozen lake, Luther sees icy bodies underneath the ice. This would explain why Robey keeps victims who were missing years prior fresh enough to put on display like it was a recent death.

The home is also frozen inside, and Raine thinks her daughter is handing in the house dead but is mistaken. Both Raines and Luther are taken captive by Robey and his underlings.
Why is Luther now MI6?
We are not sure if Luther is now MI6 when government officials give him an offer because the issue is never resolved. However, we can speculate on getting there independently and with recent online internet chatter.
Luther wakes up in a very Downtown Abbey-looking mansion after saving Raine and her daughter. Martin arrives and allows him to get some fresh air. From there, government officials approach him with several black sedans that are government-issued vehicles. Luther is invited into the back seat, where a well-dressed man thanks him for a well-done job. The man has an offer from someone titled “Chief.” This leads us to believe Luther may be ready for his next phase as a government agent.
