Truth Be Told is a crime drama series from Apple TV+. The series was created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife) and is based on the 2017 novel ‘Are You Sleeping’ by Kathleen Barber. Each season focuses on a different case for our lead amateur sleuth Poppy Scoville to solve. Poppy (Octavia Spencer) is an investigative reporter who hosts her true crime podcast, discussing the ongoing investigations that she is involved in.
Season three centers on a sex trafficking ring in Oakland and the disappearances of many teenage girls in the local area. Poppy is desperate to find the missing black girl Drea Spivey, but there is also a white girl called Emily Mills missing at the same time, and Emily is the one getting all the media attention. This racial injustice leads Poppy to team up with Eva Pierre (Gabrielle Union), a no-nonsense Principal who stands up against these prejudices. Poppy is always joined by her trusty colleagues, detective Aames (David Lyons) and former detective Markus Killebrew (Mekhi Phifer), whose involvement becomes more personal and entangled as the season draws on.
The third season of Truth Be Told has been positively received by critics and fans. The new episodes hold an impressive score on IMDB, with two positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the show can be consistently found in the top ten most popular series on Apple TV+. I found the series to be a mixed bag myself, though. The central crime saga is interesting, and some important issues are being raised, but the show relies too often on over-dramatic reveals and far-fetched plotting. With all that being said, will Apple be renewing the show for a fourth season?
Will there be a Season 4 of Truth Be Told – renewed or canceled status
Truth Be Told was one of the first shows released by the prestigious streaming platform Apple TV+. Since its debut back in December 2019, the series has released three seasons, with guest-starring appearances from Aaron Paul, Lizzy Caplan, and Kate Hudson.
Apple is yet to announce details of a fourth season, but it would seem likely that the company will decide to renew the show. The crime series is popular on the streaming platform and well-liked by critics. If there is a fourth story to be told, then Apple will be eager to renew the show.
If we look back at the show’s renewal history, Apple took quite a few months to make the announcement. Season two aired in August 2021, and the series wasn’t renewed for a third season until December 2021. Fans may have to wait a few months for renewal updates. Overall though, it seems likely that there will be a fourth season. There is always a crime to investigate, and Poppy’s closest allies seem to all be battling their demons, with enough material to be going on with for plenty more seasons to come.
