Summary

Today’s episode raised the stakes to the highest they’ve been yet, reminding everyone just how dangerous Kazuki and Rei’s lifestyle is.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 11, “Everyone Will Be Hypocrites,” which contains spoilers.

In an unexpected turn of events last week, Miri’s mother, Misaki, showed up demanding custody of her daughter back. Despite not wanting to give her up, Kazuki (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga) and Rei (voiced by Koki Uchiyama) ultimately decided to grant Misaki’s wishes, but both after one last day with Miri (voiced by Hina Kino).

At least now they know she’s safe from Rei’s father. However, the same can’t be said for Kazuki, who still has a prominent target on his back.

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

The episode opens with Kazuki and Rei going through the motions around the house with Miri gone. As he cleans, Kazuki stops in Miri’s room and reminisces about their time together.

As they comment on how empty the house feels without Miri, Rei tells Kazuki to keep the apartment, as he has decided to return to his father after the new year.

He says to do whatever with it, but Kazuki declines the offer, saying the space is too ample for just one person.

When Miri wonders when Papas Rei and Kazuki are coming to get her again, Misaki tells Miri that they are not actually her fathers. Miri still insists they are up until Misaki begins crying.

What does Rei’s father plan to do for him?

Although Rei agrees to come home and take over the family business, his father is unsatisfied, saying Rei still has too many attachments.

Since Rei didn’t care for Kazuki and Miri himself, his father says he will get rid of them for him. Even when Rei begs his father to at least spare Miri, he only grows stronger in his conviction.

Who does Ogino shoot?

After meeting Rei, his father sends Ogino to kill Miri, Misaki, and Kazuki. With a warning from Rei, Kazuki shows up at Miri’s apartment to find that Misaki has already been shot but is still barely alive.

While attempting to protect them, Ogino shoots Kazuki in the shoulder. The assassin flees, however, when he hears approaching police sirens. As Kazuki waits for help, Misaki dies in his arms. He and Kyutaro then leave the scene with Miri.

What is Kazuki’s plan to protect Miri?

Rei meets Kazuki, Kyutaro, and Miri at a safe house. After seeing she’s safe, he asks Kazuki what their next steps should be, to which Kazuki responds that the plan is to wipe away all traces of Miri, so it looks like she died.

From there, they will place her in an orphanage far away and stay out of her life forever.

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 11 Ending Explained

Despite Kazuki’s insistence on hiding her to protect her, Rei instead says he wants Miri to stay with them, where they can protect her. Kazuki disagrees, but after putting Miri back to sleep, he tells Rei that they will be splitting the chores and childrearing responsibilities more fairly this time.

They then go to Kyutaro, telling him they plan to quit their job to focus on being fathers to Miri.

With each week, this series surprises me as it gets further and further away from what I expected. While this was one of the more exciting episodes of the season, it came at a devastating cost, killing off what was left of Miri’s biological family.

It was right up there with last week’s episode regarding entertainment value. While the family-oriented episodes were cute and much funnier, it finally feels like there’s something happening and a plot to follow.

I find myself looking forward to seeing how Kazuki and Rei plan to get out of this situation, especially if it involves the use of their assassination skills.
