This article contains major spoilers for Class of ’07 Season 1 Episode 8 and openly discusses the ending of Class of ’07 Season 1.

It has been a long, complicated, messy road from the premiere of Class of ’07 to the finale; a journey fraught with peril, vomit, betrayal, lopped-off toes, and knives in backs both figuratively and literally. The big looming question hanging over the finale episode, “The Tribe Has Spoken”, is who will ultimately survive the apocalypse, but as it turns out, everyone does, including the one character we were pretty sure was dead. But it’s a close-run thing for quite a while, so here’s a breakdown of what happened in the final episode.

Class of ’07 Season 1 Ending Explained

It’s the morning after the night before, and after Zoe revealed to the attendees what Sandy had told her about the various water-borne communities, the vast majority of the students have fled into the ocean on whatever flotation devices they can muster. None of the key characters leave, though, and those who remain do so with rapidly dwindling resources, idly waiting for someone to return with help or death – whichever arrives first.

Amelia, in particular, has completely given up now she’s off her antidepressants, and you can’t really blame her, since the gang has elected to eat shoes, dandruff, and bits of sick to keep themselves alive. Things are getting bad, so they decide their only option is to choose one of the group to eat. Sister Bicky suggests they form a tribal council in order to decide who.

Who do the tribal council choose to eat?

While everyone prepares for the council meeting, Zoe, who is dead against the idea, tries to find alternate solutions. Through Sandy, she learns that there is a scuba-diving community on the ocean that can retrieve anything from the sunken depths, including antidepressants, but failure to pay means being drowned.

Meanwhile, Sandy plans to leave with Teresa on a raft powered by two stationary bikes. Teresa is the council’s first choice for dinner, though. Everyone picked Teresa because she’s the healthiest, having devoted several years to failed IVF attempts and kept herself in tip-top shape. However, she announces she’s going to help raise Sandy’s baby at sea, which gives her immunity.

The council vote ends up tied between Zoe and Megan. Amelia is brought in to cast the deciding vote but she abstains, so the decision is made according to useful survival skills. Since Zoe is the only one who can work the radio, it’s eventually decided that Megan will be killed and eaten. Tegan is predictably devastated.

What happens to Zoe and Amelia?

When Amelia sees how much Tegan and Megan are struggling with the decision, she volunteers to be the sacrifice since she has already given up on life. Zoe knocks her out and claims to the group that she’s going to finish her off to spare them all the trauma, but she instead takes her to Sandy’s escape raft and implores her to flee. She can make her way to Scuba City to retrieve her antidepressants and keep on living. As Amelia leaves, she asks Zoe to join her.

Who are the men who arrive?

At the very end of the episode, the girls think their prayers have finally been answered when they hear a voice crackle through the radio. They run outside to meet their would-be rescuers only to discover it’s a boatload of men who don’t seem too friendly. As they draw closer, the women all grab weapons and prepare to fight.
