Rain Dogs is a new HBO dramedy from BBC One and Sid Gentle Films Ltd about a mother and her daughter trying to navigate a life of British poverty while also exploring a complex relationship with a privileged gay man fresh out of prison. Daisy May Cooper fronts the show as Costello, mother to ten-year-old Iris, and Jack Farthing plays opposite her as the charming but erratic and perhaps dangerous Selby.
This is a very good show that could well become extremely popular over the season, and if nothing else it might reinforce the point that Daisy May Cooper should be in everything.
Anyway, here’s what happened in Rain Dogs Season 1, Episode 3:
- Costello went on her date with photographer Richard. Of course, it backfired. Richard’s idea of a date was rooting around in bins for scraps, and when it came down to it, he proved himself to be an inadequate lover (to put it mildly!) and an absolute creep.
- Gloria took care of Iris while Costello was dating. The article written last week had spread around all of Iris’s friends’ parents and she was being bullied as a result of it. Gloria tried to intervene but ended up making things worse.
- Selby’s old cellmate Mason emerged, demanding the twenty grand that Selby promised him. With no other ways to find the money, Selby asked his mother, Allegra, for it, under the pretense of Mason possibly hurting them if she didn’t pay up. She did, but banished Selby to the abandoned family home in Bruton.
- Costello got a letter from her estranged mother.
- Costello, Iris, and Selby all decided to leave for Bruton together.
