Dear Edward is an Apple Original drama series created by Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights and Parenthood), who wrote a handful of the key installments. The show is based on the hugely successful novel of the same name written by Ann Napolitano. It tells the story of Edward Adler (Colin O’Brien), the only person to survive a horrific plane crash on American soil. As the series progresses, Edward must deal with his newfound fame, the weight and responsibility of being the lone survivor, and the usual teenage high school problems that occur during adolescence.
The series is supported by a large ensemble cast of family members and friends who lost their loved ones in the crash. Most of these key players meet and bond at a grief group that the airline facilitates. Among the grievers is Edward’s auntie Lacey (Taylor Schilling), who has personal problems of her own. There is Dee Dee (Connie Britton), who lost her husband in the crash, politician Adriana (Anna Uzele), Kojo (Idris DeBrand), Linda (Amy Forsyth), and many more. These strangers interact with one another, becoming friends quickly, as they help each other to progress and to manage their grief.
Dear Edward currently holds a 7.3 score on IMDB and a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics were discouraged by the show’s heightened emotional angle and the overwhelming, depressing subject matter. However, this tearjerker has won over audiences more than the critics. It has been praised for its stellar performances and emotional depiction of grief. With such a mixture of responses, will Apple TV+ renew the show for a second outing?
Will there be a season 2 of Dear Edward – renewed or canceled status
There is yet to be an announcement regarding the renewal status of Dear Edward. It is unclear whether there will be a second season of the show or not. It isn’t the most popular title for the streaming platform, but it has consistently made its way into the top 15 charts over the weeks, and the IMDB reviews are encouraging. There is a fan base here that would love to see a second batch of episodes if it was to be renewed.
I haven’t read the novel the series is based on, but it is easy to imagine that the show has used most, if not all, of the source material available. That isn’t to say that the show cannot carry on after the season one finale or when the book is complete. Jason Katims has created enough likable characters and intricate storylines to keep this show going for the foreseeable future if the audience is there for it. Apple TV+ may take time to finalize a decision on this, but it wouldn’t be out of the question for Dear Edward to renew in the coming weeks or months. That being said, they may keep this as a one-off miniseries instead. As always, we will keep you posted on any updates on the pending renewal of Dear Edward.
How many episodes are there of Dear Edward?
At this moment in time, there are only 10 episodes of Dear Edward. We expect this to remain unless Apple TV+ decides to renew for a second season.
My husband and I loved Dear Edward! Finally, a complex story line with great actors. We can’t wait for season 2. Please renew this show!
Please renew, we love this show!
I freaking hope so!!!! Connie Britton is of course amazing as usual, been watching her since before “Friday Night Lights”, but whatever she touches turns to gold! And this is the first thing I have seen Taylor Shilling in since “Orange is the new Black”
PLEASE renew…..This is a fabulous series. It’s well written, the casting and their performances are compelling. There are so many layers. I’m literally glued to the screen keeping up with this fast paced drama. The characters, while linked to the tragedy are so well developed individually and each has such a complex story revealed through their shared grief.
I would be so disappointed if they didn’t come back for season 2. I have completed fallen in love with the show and especially the characters. The actors are so good in it. Love Connie Britton as always and Taylor Shilling has proved she can do much more than just her OIB character norm. The whole cast is phenomenal and I really want to follow these characters further into their lives and see where they end up.
The writer paints such vivid pictures with their words. The characters feel real, believable. I would like to share their journey for awhile. It’s not all about cops, killing and hatred. It’s a REAL story about real people of which we have precious little. Hoping Season 2 will be a continuation we can all enjoy.
PLEASE RENEW!!! I loved it so much!
Story lines can be developed beyond what we have seen. Would love to see what happens to Kojo in Guyana, Connie Britton and her daughter, Edward and Shay’s friendship, on and on!
Please renew. Such a great show!
It was great, please renew
