Kiefer Sutherland brings a paranoid, engaging, and funny take to a character that gets more interesting by the episode. The episode opens with flashbacks that continue through the entire 40-plus minutes.
We learn much about John’s backstory. Who the person was John lost as a child at the funeral. Oh, a reveal at the end that may give you a moment that Rabbit Hole keeps maneuvering towards.
Here’s what happened in Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 2:
- We learn of one survivor when John’s office building blew up. The “intern” at the office was Cara’s date during the Barry con job at the bar. He claims he was out on a lunch run heading back up, and the bomb went off.
- John saves Hailey from being kidnapped by three people pretending to be law enforcement. When she resists, they taser her, but John runs up, taping them with his phone, demanding everyone around do the same. Hailey punches both assailants in the face, and they run away.
- John discovers that his staff set him up on a dating app because he is alone and doesn’t meet many new people.
- John is convinced Hailey was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He tries to let her go after he takes her to his safe house, but she refuses to leave because Hailey thinks she is safer with him than alone in the real world.
- John steals an authentication key from the police station to help him access Valence’s data. However, the intern shows up and tries to swipe it for himself.
- We find out in flashbacks that the safehouse was John’s childhood home. It is also revealed that John’s father committed suicide by shooting himself in the face with a shotgun.
- When John and Hailey return to the safe house, John’s father is there, and he is alive.
Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 3 Release Date and Time
Episode 3 will be released on Paramount+ on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023, at 3:00 a.m. ET. The episode’s title is “The Algorithms of Control,” and the run time is 58 minutes.

Predictions
- Who is “the intern” working for? It must be the man Xander is very afraid of since the authenticator key was John’s only way to access Valence’s data.
- Why is John’s father alive? It was staged, but John didn’t seem surprised to see him. Look for a backstory to explain this in the future, but his father is a specialized government agent.
- It also seems clear since John has no idea what is going on. Maybe this is all designed to bring John’s father out of hiding.
- Is Hailey good or bad? With the “intern” looking like he knows karate, I find it hard to believe Hailey performs krav maga so well. She can escape from paid assailants. I think she is a plant. What about you?
