Apple TV+ has released the first three installments of The Big Door Prize, a high-concept sci-fi comedy series about a mysterious new machine that tells customers their life potential.
In episode three, “Jacob,” we explored the chaotic life of the wayward teenager Jacob (Sammy Fourlas). The student is grieving the loss of his mother and twin brother while being hailed as a hero after saving the Principal’s life.
Jacob doesn’t think he’s a hero, though, and feels overwhelmed by everything.
It’s another consistent episode, spending time developing the series’ many characters. Here’s what happened in episode three of The Big Door Prize:
- A flashback reveals how the Morpho machine was installed. Jacob went on a break at the store and returned to find the machine in the building. He followed the instructions and skipped through the legal spiel, resulting in the hero card.
- Jacob’s dad congratulates his son on saving Principal Pat’s life. Inspired by his son, the father has quit his job. But Jacob doesn’t think he’s a hero.
- At school, he is applauded. Dusty continues to obsess over the machine, warning of the consequences of following the results. He phones Pat to prove a point, but she still loves her motorbike. She asks Jacob to perform the ceremonial dunk at the homecoming basketball game in her place as a tribute to Kolton.
- Jacob starts to have panic attacks and goes to see a doctor. He explains all the stresses in his life and his family’s traumatic history. The doctor is depressed herself and can’t advise him on how to overcome these attacks.
- Dusty and the gang pre-drink before the game. Giorgio tries to guess everyone’s Morpho card results. He is mean to Dusty and complimentary to Cass. He tries to predict Father Reuben’s card, but the priest admits he hasn’t used the machine. Cass and Dusty get into an argument. Dusty is sad that Cass keeps secrets from him, even if they are minor.
- At the game, the coach dedicates the event to Jacob’s dead brother Kolton, their old team captain. The band performs a tribute. Jacob is nervous about his dunk and flirts with Trina.
- Cass motivates Jacob to perform the dunk; he misses and falls flat on his face. He runs off, and Trina kisses him.
- Father Reuben uses the machine, and his card says, Father. He is overjoyed and cries.

Predictions
- The next episode will focus on Father Reuben. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is revealed that he wants to be a parent more than he wants to be a priest. It would be a nice twist, implying that he wants to be a parent.
- Thanks to the Morpho machine, the town will continue to fall apart. There will be further accidents and negative consequences coming from these Morpho card results.
- Trina and Jacob will decide to make their relationship public. The students will accept their romance, but the parents may be more concerned.
- Cass will take a DNA test to see if she is descended from royalty. She will distance herself further from Dusty, who is becoming increasingly obsessed with the Morpho machine by the day.
