We discuss whether there will be a Murder Mystery 3, a sequel to the Netflix film Murder Mystery 2, and will contain spoilers.
In this sequel, Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey (Jennifer Aniston) have become full-time detectives struggling to get their private eye agency off the ground. Their best friend, The Maharajah (Adeel Akhtar), invites them to his wedding last minute.
Nick and Audrey decide to go on this lavish vacation, only to have their friend kidnapped in the middle of the ceremony. The suspect list is long, and many characters in the mix would want The Maharajah dead.
The issue with Murder Mystery 2 is that it isn’t funny. Every joke delivered felt perfectly set up to give Nick and Audrey the punchlines. Jeremy Garelick’s direction felt like a series of scenes that didn’t flow.
The story was moving too fast to even care about the characters or their tie to The Maharajah. There’s no depth to these characters or even an exploration of their backstories to make this more complex. Everything was explained and not shown to viewers.
That’s the reason why it’s not as engaging as a mystery. By the time the third act started, there had been a twist that didn’t make sense and had a predictable ending. Some action scenes worked well. It was nice to see Aniston take over as the heroine.
It’s hard not to love the natural chemistry between Aniston and Sandler. But it sadly wasn’t enough to hold this mystery together.
Murder Mystery 3 sequel potential release date
Since the first one came out in 2019, and the second one was released in 2023, there could be another 3-5 year gap between them. It’s hard to say because they never intended to make a sequel to the first one, and that’s why it took so long for a sequel to be announced.
However, with how they ended this second installment, it’s entirely possible that the third one will be announced soon based on how well it does during opening weekend.

Murder Mystery sequel plot: what could Murder Mystery 3 be about?
Murder Mystery 3 could lead off where Audrey and Nick ended up on that hijacked helicopter at the end of the second installment.
At the end of the second, the helicopter pilot stole the money that was originally gifted to them by the Maharajah. He stole the money and jumped out of the helicopter, leaving Audrey and Nick to fend for themselves.
They could safely land the helicopter on an island and try to find their way back in another adventure. While trying to get off the island, they could fall into another mystery to solve, and in exchange to help the people find out who the suspect is, they can return safely home.
It does make the most sense to have them stranded and find a community of people to integrate with to blend in. It would also be hilarious to see them navigate an island while being lost and then solve a murder on top of that.
