The journey of understanding Pip’s (Fionn Whitehead) future continued this week on Great Expectations, with him getting the tutelage under Jaggers (Ashley Thomas). While there have been highs and lows with that relationship, Pip is starting to see the big picture. Here is everything that went down in Great Expectations Season 1, Episode 3.
- We see Estella navigating the city on the lookout for Pip.
- Passed out and drunk, Jaggers finds Pip and pours water all over him. Pip gets up, ready to fight, but Jaggers makes him realize who is in charge relatively fast.
- After he settles down, Jaggers explains to him the purpose of his arrival and that he intends to take Pip under his wing.
- However, after agreeing to go, he finds a note from Estella that says, “turn around, Pip, do not go with him.”
- Regardless of the note, Pip joins Jaggers on the trip to the city, where we see him get the lay of the land.
- Jaggers and Pip enter the chief justice’s chambers, where we see the chief justice has hung himself. Moments later, Jaggers says he needs something signed, forges the signature, and asks Pip to sign as a witness.
- Then, we see Jaggers explain some things about the city and send him off to settle in his new home.
- Wemmick is responsible for getting Pip settled, and this is where we see a now grown-up Herbert, which we met early in episode two, who fought with Pip over Estella.
- In his time with Wemmick, Pip is informed that Estella will marry a man named Drummle.
- Pip writes home while we hear letters being read by Sara and Biddy. It’s when Esetella reads his letter, is when things get interesting. At this time, Estella discovers she will be getting married and is shocked.
- Of course, Miss Havisham puts her in her place by saying she is only there cause of her.
- Although frustrated, Pip heads to a meeting where he meets Jaggers and Drummle. Regardless of the meeting, Pip wanted to know why Jaggers wanted him to meet the man Estella was set to marry.
- Finally, Jaggers explains that if they join forces to take down Drummle, it could be his in to get back in the good graces with Estella. So, in the end, it would be a good partnership for both men.
Great Expectations Season 1 Episode 4 Release Date
Episode 3 will be released on FX and Hulu on April 9, 2023. Episode 3 will have a run time of 56 minutes.
