This week on Great Expectations saw Pip (Fionn Whitehead) and Jaggers (Ashley Thomas) getting what they needed from Drummle (Matthew Needham) to Estella’s (Shalom Brune-Franklin) world turning upside down and Joe (Owen McDonnell) trying to save Pip. Here is everything that went down in Great Expectations Season 1, Episode 5.
- Pip is smoking and starting to have delusions of Miss Havisham. Before he can be any further gone, Jaggers says they have business to attend to.
- Jaggers tells Pip that they will get Drummle to sign over his portion of goods today.
- Compeyson pulls Pip aside and threatens him because he has something of his. Pip is confused, and before Compeyson can hurt him, Pip gets away.
- Miss Havisham introduces Estella to her second option for marriage, Herbert. She wants to see his dancing skills.
- After showing off his dance moves, Estella says that they were great and that Miss Havisham can stop her first husband cause she is marrying Herbert.
- Jaggers and Pip work together to get Drummle drunk. After they do, Drummle signs the paperwork they need him to and leave.
- Later, Jaggers and Pip have a massive discussion about Compeyson. While Pip presses Jaggers for answers, he tells him that he is sworn to secrecy.
- Because of Estella, Joe decides to arrive in town to talk to Pip. He asks him to come home and marry Biddy. After he tells him that it was Estella’s idea, Pip gets angry and tells him to leave.
- Jaggers has enlisted Wemmick to get Pip to a protected place as he is worried about his safety.
- On the verge of killing herself, Magwitch stops Estella from doing it. At this moment, he reveals that he is her father. Estella is uncertain of what to do with this information.
- Of course, Estella begins to question Magwitch and wants all the details. He tells her about her mother and their relationship and what happened. Finally, he tells her to tell Miss Havisham everything changes today.
- Compeyson heads to Pip’s house and threatens Herbert to get information about his whereabouts. As he is about to hurt him, Jaggers arrives to stop him.
- Jaggers explains that he is on Magwitch’s orders with Pip. Then, tells him to leave him alone before knocking him out.
- The episode ended with Compeyson awakening and realizing that Jaggers has a weak spot.
