The episode “Sunflowers” has the Ted Lasso gang contemplating personal and professional demons. This good character development episode indicates AFC Richmond may turn a corner soon.
Here is what happened in Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 6:
- Rebeca meets an unnamed Dutchman after falling into a canal. The man allows her to wash and dry her clothes. They spend a wonderful night together, with drinks and dinner on his houseboat. Rebecca falls asleep while he gives her a foot rub. The next morning, she leaves after kissing him. Rebecca never learns his name.
- Ted creates a strategy based on the famed Chicago Bulls’ “triangle offense,” so his team can play “fast, fluid, and free.” We later learn it’s called “total football,” invented in Holland in the ’70s.
- Trent follows Colin to an LGBTQ+ bar and reveals he has known his sexual orientation for months. Trent reveals to Colin he came out years ago to his family. This is a way for Trent to show Colin he’s not alone.
- Nate’s only appearance in the episode is when Ted hallucinates him as a waiter at an American restaurant in Amsterdam. However, it is revealed later the psychedelic Beard gave him was impotent.
- We think the episode indicates how homesick Ted has become. Van Gogh’s painting reminds him of Kansas, as does the connection to his father.
- It’s revealed that Roy is bothered by the fact that Keeley has a girlfriend.

- Roy will make a play to get Keeley back.
- The new “total football” offense will spark AFC Richmond to go on a winning streak. Jamie will show off his new leadership skills and help his team learn the offense.
- I am wondering how Colin will come out to his team. Will Trent report it? Maybe even accidentally? Ted Lasso is a compassionate show with these types of subjects. My guess is Colin will come out to the team to bring them together.
- The romance between Rebecca and the unnamed man is very sweet. She will revisit him by the season’s end. Why? That’s because he may be the “s***e in nining armour” we heard about in episode three.
- The season will end with Ted quitting and going back home to Kansas. If so, he and Nate will settle their differences and become friends again.
