Summary

Although we didn’t learn much about the Why-Man, it was still entertaining to see all that Senku and his friends accomplished this week.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 4, “Eyes of Science,” which contains spoilers.

Last week Senku (Yusuke Kobayashi) and his friends finally managed to find oil, a goal that turned out to be just as lucrative as he expected.

With it, they were able to create new tech, as well as upgrade their communications. Whether or not that was a good or bad thing remains to be seen, as Senku may have just gotten proof of life outside of Ishigami village.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 4 Recap

The episode begins with several villagers speculating who could be on the other end of the mysterious distress message they intercepted. Although everyone is confused, they are sure Senku and the other “generals,” aka the most clever people they have, will be able to figure it out.

According to Kohaku, the generals are Senku, Chrome, Ryuusui, Gen, and Ukyou.

Who is the Why-Man?

With no further knowledge of who is contacting them, Senku and his friends dub this mysterious person the “Why-Man” after his continuous “why” message.

In order to help them see their new potential enemy, dubbed the Why-Man, Senku has the group help him gather everything necessary to create a display for their GPS system. This way, their GPS works like radar and sonar machines.

What metal does Chrome use the radar to find?

In need of more steel for their ship, Chrome is able to locate an iron deposit after he realizes they can use the radar to locate metal as well, turning it into something similar to a metal detector.

In order to make traveling and transportation easier between areas, Senku creates asphalt as a means to pave their makeshift roads.

Dr. Stone Season 3 Episode 4 Ending Explained

After making several significant accomplishments and advancements, the episode ends with Ryuusui explaining what makes a good leader to Gen as we see Senku and Chrome have already developed carts and tracks to navigate their new iron mines.

Like many Dr. Stone, this episode covered what felt like months in a single 30-minute period.

While the way time moves can often distort the viewers’ perception of how long things are actually taking, it’s always fun watching Senku and his friends find ways to recreate the luxuries we remember from our world.

I appreciate how fast time moves because it brings us one step closer to figuring out the real mysteries.

I was a little disappointed to see that we didn’t learn more about the mysterious message and its origins. However, considering it was the perfect catalyst for everything that the group invented today, the episode wasn’t a total loss by any means.
