Truth Be Told is a crime drama series from Apple TV+. The series was created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman (The Good Wife) and is based on the 2017 novel ‘Are You Sleeping’ by Kathleen Barber. Each season focuses on a different case for our lead amateur sleuth Poppy Scoville to solve. Poppy (Octavia Spencer) is an investigative reporter who hosts her true crime podcast, discussing the ongoing investigations that she is involved in.
Season three centers on a sex trafficking ring in Oakland and the disappearances of many teenage girls in the local area. Poppy is desperate to find the missing black girl Drea Spivey, but there is also a white girl called Emily Mills missing at the same time, and Emily is the one getting all the media attention. This racial injustice leads Poppy to team up with Eva Pierre (Gabrielle Union), a no-nonsense Principal who stands up against these prejudices. Poppy is always joined by her trusty colleagues, detective Aames (David Lyons) and former detective Markus Killebrew (Mekhi Phifer), whose involvement becomes more personal and entangled as the season draws on.
The third season of Truth Be Told has been positively received by critics and fans. The new episodes hold an impressive score on IMDB, with two positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the show can be consistently found in the top ten most popular series on Apple TV+. I found the series to be a mixed bag myself, though. The central crime saga is interesting, and some important issues are being raised, but the show relies too often on over-dramatic reveals and far-fetched plotting. With all that being said, will Apple be renewing the show for a fourth season?

It has been confirmed that Truth Be Told has been canceled, and viewers will not receive a Season 4. This is not surprising given that Apple TV+ appears to be leaning towards critically praised TV shows as part of their long-term strategy.
The change of strategy meant Truth Be Told did not fit the mold. However, fans will be happy that they at least got three seasons.
March 14, 2023 Update
Truth Be Told was one of the first shows released by the prestigious streaming platform Apple TV+. Since its debut back in December 2019, the series has released three seasons, with guest-starring appearances from Aaron Paul, Lizzy Caplan, and Kate Hudson.
Apple is yet to announce details of a fourth season, but it would seem likely that the company will decide to renew the show. The crime series is popular on the streaming platform and well-liked by critics. If there is a fourth story to be told, then Apple will be eager to renew the show.
If we look back at the show’s renewal history, Apple took quite a few months to make the announcement. Season two aired in August 2021, and the series wasn’t renewed for a third season until December 2021. Fans may have to wait a few months for renewal updates. Overall though, it seems likely that there will be a fourth season. There is always a crime to investigate, and Poppy’s closest allies seem to all be battling their demons, with enough material to be going on with for plenty more seasons to come. As always, we will keep you posted on any updates in the pending renewal of Truth Be Told.

This is insanely good. Octavia has found her place. This is an opportunity to take today’s biggest issues and explain them in a human detailed way to watchers. Poppy does it in a compelling way. My God, it’s endless. Mass shootings, the relaxed gun laws, abortion stories, WHITE SUPREMACY up close. Endless topics that if done as well as season three could possibly change the national conversation in CONGRESS! Please do not lose this gem you’ve uncovered. I’m a discerning consumer and rarely comment. I cannot say enough. Thank you Octavia. This is truly one of the best and diverse crime drama that’s caught my interest in quite some time. Can’t get enough of Octavia Spencer and Mekhi Phifer. Their dialogue is fire on “Truth Be Told”. This series keeps me wanting more. Fingers crossed there will be a season 4??????
I’m anxiously awaiting the 4th season of Truth Be Told. I’m not easily interested in anything on television, but this series has been invigorating, powerful, thought provoking, and a great get away from the real challenges faced in my position daily. I love great acting as this cast portrays, armed with creative writing and excellent directing. I do hope Apple will quickly decide to renew and hurry to get new material filmed and put out there for us connoisseurs.

Seriously?! Why is season 4 even a discussion??? DO IT! TBT is the only reason I have (and continue to renew) my apple subscription! Truth be told is 1 of the best TV shows out there right now .. it’s real everyday life sh*t. Everytime a great show comes they cancel it , why ? Who knows . Truth be told needs a season 4 , 5 maybe even more ..keep them coming please .
Please renew this show! Octavia Spencer is brilliant. The whole cast is amazing and the stories keep you on the edge of your seat. There definitely is a story or stories to be told. The death of Ochoa, Poppy’s hunt for her biological father and what will their meeting be like, what’s in the future for Aimes, and what is going to be the fallout for Shreve and Liv? Will Shreve’s CTE bring him down? So many questions.

One of the best shows that I think that I’ve ever seen. It seems that there’s a lot of truth to all these stories probably don’t want to keep it going because of all the truth to it. I wish that another network would pick it up and keep going with it because it is an amazing cast and amazing show.

The best show on Apple, of course with a leading Black cast, I knew they wouldn’t keep this show, that deals with issues that are happening today in this Country, I pray Netflix, Hulu, will pick the show up, we need this show, looking at issues that are not being reported in the news, voices that are over looked in Black and Brown community, our Voice is always silence, the current shows on TV, or cable doesn’t come close the brilliant cast, the storyline superior to any current series on TV , but if was negative, gangs, violent, or a comedy there would be a season 4.

Hmm what a fantastic show. Really the only reason I signed up for apple TV. Wow how could you cancel such a great show?. Well, time to cancle apple tv.
The show is excellent, my family gathers around to watch it. So I guess I will cancel my subscription. That was the only show on there that caught our eye.
