Tensions rise in episode eight of The Big Door Prize, titled “Izzy.” The mayor reveals hard truths and opens up about her past, telling her daughter Cass (Gabrielle Dennis) about her relationship with Martha (Susan Savoie).
Elsewhere, Dusty (Chris O’Dowd) finally confronts Giorgio (Josh Segarra), and Trina (Djouliet Amara) reunites with Jacob (Sammy Fourlas).
It’s a fun installment, packed with cute moments and much humor, but one that ends with forced revelations. Here’s what happened in The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 8:
- Izzy and Jacob discuss the Morpho machine. Jacob has tried entering different numbers and not even using his fingerprints, but he always gets the same result.
- Izzy tries again and receives the result: ghost. This was her card all along; she has lied to everyone. They both agree to keep one another’s secrets.
- Cass argues with Izzy about her lies; she made her own daughter believe she had caused the end of her marriage. Izzy opens up a little more but won’t admit that she lied.
- Dusty confronts Giorgio, spying on the womanizer without his wig on. Giorgio is heartbroken after Cass’ rejection. Surprisingly, Dusty feels sorry for him, even though Giorgio is the one in the wrong.
- They decide to try and win some of his items back. They meet a man called Urie, whose Morpho card says “sole survivor.” He is living in his shed, scared he will be involved in a deadly disaster. The three men talk about their fears.
- Izzy confesses to lying about her Morpho card. Cass agrees to get her a blank card.
- Jacob passes Trina a blank card. They realize they should get back together.
- That night, the town gathers for Mr. Johnson’s magic show. Dusty is used as a volunteer. He remembers a skiing trip in Whistler, Canada. He realizes that his Morpho card may have been focusing on the place Whistler, not the act of whistling.
- Izzy makes an announcement; she will be stepping down as mayor. Then she reveals many of the citizen’s secrets. She divulges the Morpho machine scam, the fake cards, and Cass’ lies. Izzy really does a number on her daughter.
- Outside the theater, Izzy sees a wild deer roaming the streets.
The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 9 Release Date and Time
Episode 9 will be released on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, at midnight PT. Episode 9 is titled “Deerfest: Part One” and will have a run time of 30 minutes.

- The final two parts will focus on the Deerfest event. All the many subplots will converge here, and all the townsfolk will gather at this event, leading to more drama and revelations.
- The citizens will realize that the Morpho machine is actually causing them nothing but pain, and they will all head to the general store with the plan of destroying the machine once and for all.
- Izzy’s speech will cause further rifts in the community. Cass’ businesses will fall apart, with people demanding their money back.
- Dusty will decide to head to Canada to pursue his Morpho card and life’s potential.
