The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 9 Recap

Mr. Johnson returns from his magic show feeling utterly dejected. Xander arrives, hoping to cheer him up. He wants to sell him Dusty’s theremin, which he found in the trash.

Xander has fixed the musical instrument with a piece of gum, which was his Morpho result, and he has stumbled across something intriguing on the inside. The theremin features the Morpho logo on it too.

That magic show upset a few other locals, not just Mr. Johnson. Cass and Dusty sit in bed, mulling over Izzy’s big speech. Cass feels betrayed by her own mother, who has turned the whole town against her.

Dusty tries to cheer his wife up, joking about Izzy, then talks about his revelation from the night.

Dusty realized that Whistler may mean the place in Canada. He thinks that the Morpho results probably shouldn’t be taken so literally. Trina overhears her parents chatting in the middle of the night and goes to join them in their bed.

She confesses to her own secrets, her Morpho card said liar on it, and she cheated on Kolton with his twin brother Jacob—the trio hugs.

Having announced that she was stepping down as the mayor, Izzy quickly changed her mind again. She gets to work on the arrangements for Deerfest.

At Giorgio’s restaurant, Cass and the gang discuss Izzy’s betrayal, Giorgio’s wig, and the restaurant owner’s new friendship with Dusty’s dad Cary, the supermodel.

Why does Trina confess to the entire school?

Cary has passed on some of his life lessons to Giorgio, one of these being to face your fears. Trina takes this advice and decides to make an announcement at school. She jumps on the PA system and tells the entire school that she has been secretly dating Jacob for a long time, even before Kolton died. Trina realizes that she no longer wants to lie and feels unburdened by the truth.

This revelation causes a stir in class. Jacob is upset that Trina made this public announcement without discussing it with him first, while Dusty is annoyed that Trina told Beau the secret first. The students and Dusty get into an argument, which leads to further revelations. The class hear of Dusty’s planned threesome and the time he smoked weed with Jacob.

What are Dusty’s thoughts on the Morpho machine?

Dusty tries to detract from these shocking reveals, ranting about the Morpho machine. He says everyone is afraid to make mistakes and how the machine has caused everyone to drastically alter their lives. Maybe the Morpho results shouldn’t be taken so literally; maybe they push individuals to address their problems and force them to own their mistakes instead.

Jacob tells his father about Dusty’s rant. They consider moving out of town. Meanwhile, Trina offers her mother a gift she’s made, a beautiful pottery chalice. Next, Beau and Jacob turn up at the Hubbard’s house. Jacob asks Trina out on a date, inviting her to Deerfest. Trina accepts, but only on one condition, she wants her parents to tag along as well.

Why is Urie nervous?

The whole gang head to Deerfest together as a storm rumbles in the distance. Urie worries that his first outing since receiving the sole survivor Morpho card will end in disaster. He thinks the storm may be his fault and could lead to many deaths. Izzy refuses to listen to Urie’s weather warning, though.

Elsewhere, Father Reuben bypasses the festival and heads straight to Hana’s bar. He tells Hana that he doesn’t want to be a priest any more and then kisses her.
