There was a lot of soul-searching in this week’s episode, as Chise (Atsumi Tanezaki), Elias (Ryota Takeuchi), and even Alice all wondered what their roles are and how the other people in their lives perceive them.
With the help of advice from several others, they soon began to realize that people take on many different roles and that those roles are different for everyone they encounter.
Although it was an eye-opening realization for Chise and Elias, it didn’t seem to translate as well for Alice and Renfred, who still seemed to struggle to understand one another completely in the end.
- Chise asks Elias what he meant when he first met her and declared she would be his bride. The school bell rings before he can answer.
- Renfred explains to Elias that although many sorcerers often take subordinates to continue their lineage, Alice is more like a daughter to him.
- Alice calls Chise to pick her up from the college and tells Elias she wants to borrow Chise for a night.
- Alice ends up sleeping over and explains that she overheard Renfred and Elias’ conversation. She then realized she wasn’t as useful to Renfred as she thought.
- While speaking with Chise, Alice reveals Renfred lost his arm protecting her from Joseph.
- Chise goes to talk to Elias on the roof.
- After thinking about her earlier bride question, Elias tells Chise he thought it would be a convenient solution, as no matter what her label was, she would be living with him anyway. He soon realized he did not want her to leave, as apprentices generally do.
- When he finds her skipping classes, Alice confronts Renfred, saying she does not think of him as her father.
- Alice admits that she chooses to stay with Renfred and wants to be someone who can protect him as well.
- Renfred tells Alice that she is still a child, therefore making it his job to protect her.
- Rnfred leaves as Alice tells him that he still does not understand.
- The episode ends with several mysterious figures retrieving something from a drawer in the college’s basement.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 Episode 7 Release Date and Time
Season 2, Episode 7, will be released on Crunchyroll on Thursday, May 18th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. ET. Episode 7 is titled “Slow and Sure. I” and will have a run time of approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
I thought Chise and Joseph would be meeting from the preview last week, but it seemed only to be a flashback. I’m starting to wonder if maybe his character isn’t as important as I thought as I head into this week’s predictions.
- In the preview for next week, it looks like Chise is participating in some physical education classes. I could see this causing problems for her, as we know that Sleigh Beggys are usually pretty physically weak, to begin with.
- Philomela seems to be up to something shady next week, leading me to believe that Rian was right, and we will learn that she is, in fact, spying on the college, and maybe even Chise, for her family.
