The Prime Video original series is hurtling towards its conclusion now, yet Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) still seems unable to catch a break. In “A House Full of Extremely Lame Horses,” Susie (Alex Borstein) battles to get Midge a spot on the Gordon Ford Show and in with Jack Parr, but fate seems to have other ideas.
It’s another expertly written addition to the series, although one that focuses on repetitive storylines. Here’s what happened in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, Episode 7:
- Rose plans a party to relaunch her old matchmaking business. The apartment isn’t fit for hosting, though, when a blocked drain causes flooding. Ethan’s toy is found stuck in the plumbing.
- This makes Midge late for work. She asks Abe to take Ethan to school. Here, Abe discovers that Ethan is failing academically.
- At work, the Gordon Ford Show is hosting Danny Stevens. The celebrity asks the writers for jokes to help him with promoting his new book. Midge suggests Danny talks from the heart, opening up about his own life and parents.
- The interview goes perfectly. Danny comes across well, cracking jokes and discussing his family history. Afterward, Danny thanks Midge. He offers her a script-writing job on a sitcom he is making.
- Gordon is furious that Danny would poach his staff right in front of him. The two men get into an argument. Gordon is dragged out of the bar.
- Abe confronts Joel and Midge about their son’s poor test results. Abe had asked Joel to leave Ethan alone until he was six years old, when his genius would kick in. Joel thinks this is absurd. He defends Ethan and tells the parents to drop the whole thing.
- The Weissmans still rely on Zelda, even though she doesn’t work for them anymore. Janusz argues with his wife, ordering her to leave the ‘lame horses’ to solve their own problems.
- Mike offers Midge a spot on Jack Parr’s comedy showcase. Susie wants Midge to perform on the Gordon Ford show, though. Mike says that it’s never going to happen. Gordon won’t budge.
- Midge is given a raise at work. She tells Gordon about the Jack Parr showcase. Gordon is furious.
- Midge performs well but doesn’t land the gig. They want Susie’s other client instead.
- In 1973, Midge helped her mother with her business commercials. Her financier tells her that she is in financial trouble because of this endeavor though.
- After being rejected, Midge cries in her bathroom. Abe sees Esther playing the piano; she is the genius of the family.

Predictions
- Midge’s stand-up career is going nowhere. She cannot perform on the Gordon Ford Show, and no one else wants her as a comedian. How will Midge land her big break? Will she ever perform on the Gordon Ford Show? Surely Susie can work her magic and get her the right gig.
- Flash forwards will explore more of Esther’s genius. While in the sixties, Abe will help Esther reach her full potential while in the sixties. Poor Ethan will be pushed aside.
- Rose will host her party and start to regain some confidence in herself. Midge will see how much this means to her mother, leading to financial support in the seventies.
