While things seemed to be going smoothly for Chise (Atsumi Tanezaki) and her class on this camping trip at first, things took a turn for the worst when Lucy (Minami Tsuda) was attacked in the forest.
Despite reaching her quickly, no one could’ve predicted the vicious creature waiting to attack them. It was life and death as Chise’s friends came to her aid, and while they were able to escape, it did not come without a price. Only time will tell who or what motivated Chise’s cursed arm to transform the way it did and what that means for her future.
- Elias makes his presence known to Chise in the forest as she gathers firewood.
- There is a flashback to Elias telling Chise he planned to accompany her but also planned to stay hidden with her trip.
- To avoid getting in her way, Elias splits himself in half and leaves one half of himself at home in his usual form while the other half accompanies Chise in a chimera form.
- While trying to save Lucy in the forest, Chise and Elias are attacked by a mythical sea creature known as a nuckelavee.
- With Elias’ help, Chise calls on a mythical creature called an each-uisge to help her. The creature allows her and Rian to ride along its back while they distract the nuckelavee and lure it toward the lake.
- When the nuckelavee pulls Chise down into the water, Chise’s cursed arm transforms into a bird-like claw capable of slicing the monster’s arm off.
- Chise and Elias are able to escape the lake before the each-usige can eat them.
- On the surface, Rian uses magic to try and further defend Chise and Elias from being eaten by the each-usige.
- Chise still thanks the each-uisge for its help by feeding it locks of her hair.
- The episode ends with Chise reuniting with her classmates and friends to check on them.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 Episode 9 Release Date and Time
Season 2, Episode 9, will be released on Crunchyroll on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. ET. Episode 9 is titled “Conscience does make cowards of us all. I” and will have a run time of approximately 23 minutes.

Predictions
While I was right about the monsters attacking last week, Philomela did not seem to be involved from what we’ve seen so far. With that in mind, maybe she’s less suspicious than I thought. We’ll see next week.
- In the preview for next week, it appears that Chise visits Joseph. There’s a good chance with his old experiments that he might be able to tell Chise more about what happened to her arm, though I’m sure it will come at a price.
- There seemed to be a werewolf in the preview for next week. It looks like it is wearing a hoodie with bandages around its face, and I can’t help but wonder if that’s actually Isaac and this is why he’s always hiding his face behind a hood.
