In episode five, “Brass Tactics,” the many subplots begin to converge as the drama heightens. Charlie (Wyatt Oleff) has developed Samantha’s (Chase Sui Wonders) photographs, unveiling many new secrets. Regan (Jemima Kirke) and Keith (Ashley Zukerma) suspect their son of attempted murder. William (Nico Tortorella) finds inspiration in Samantha’s (Chase Sui Wonders) case, and the band’s crimes start to rise to the surface.
It’s a busy installment packed with twists and big reveals. Unfortunately, the show contains some cliched dialogue and keeps forcing rather unlikely scenarios upon us to reach its goals. Here’s what happened in City on Fire Season 1, Episode 5:
- Charlie has Samantha’s photographs developed, but he can’t afford the payment. He heads back to the band’s base for cash. The band is growing suspicious of their new member, though. Nicky catches Charlie stealing and drags him to their latest protest.
- Keith is interrogated by the detectives. Amory manages to get him released. Keith worries about his missing gun. He suspects his son Will of being the shooter. Will admits that he stole the gun but only shot a bird.
- William follows Samantha’s clues. This links the Hamilton-Sweeney Group to the fires. They are buying burnt-down buildings. William confronts Amory. This meeting scares Amory, who orders Nicky to kill William.
- Keith throws his gun into the river.
- Nicky and Sol chase after William when he exits the building. They chase him onto a boat.
- Charlie pawns his father’s watch and buys the photographs, but three are missing. He heads to the University and breaks into the darkroom to develop the rest of the reel.
- Bruno visits William’s studio. An intruder (Nicky’s friend) attacks him and burns the place down.
- Samantha’s photos show Nicky outside a burning building. Flashbacks reveal why Samantha hid this photo. Sol caught Samantha taking the photograph. Samantha hid the reel of film from Sol, who destroyed her other reels and her sentimental camera.
- Sol strangles William on the boat and throws him overboard.
- A final photograph shows Nicky and Samantha together.
City on Fire Season 1 Episode 6 Release Date and Time
Episode 6 will be released on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 2nd, 2023, at Midnight PT. Episode 6 is titled “Annus Horriblis” and will have a run time of 48 minutes.

Predictions
- I find it hard to believe that no one saw Nicky and Sol killing William and throwing him overboard. Hopefully, they will become suspects in William’s death when witnesses come forward in the following days.
- Amory will panic as his crimes start to be unearthed. He may worry that Nicky will turn on him too.
- Charlie will now be suspicious of Nicky, having seen Samantha’s secret photos. He will go to the police with the information he has.
- The Detectives will start to join the dots together, having found William dead and his art studio burnt down within the same day. They will go back to the Hamilton-Sweeney building for answers.
