Summary
The season finale of Fatal Attraction will have people talking, and that’s exactly what the creators want in hopes that it leads to a second season. A good episode that could’ve been great.
From finding out if Dan (Joshua Jackson) will file for an appeal of his case to the big reveal of who killed Alex (Lizzy Caplan) and how they did it, the season finale of Fatal Attraction has finally arrived to answer all of our questions.
Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 8 Recap
The episode begins where episode seven left off, with Beth and Alex meeting. Beth wants to know it all and wants her to understand that no matter what she says, none of it is real. Alex explains that she has two options, fight and make a fool out of herself or lose. She tells her she is pregnant, but Beth doesn’t believe her.
A flashback happens where Beth talks to Ellen about the day Alex took her.
Present day Ellen and Dan are at a bar together, discussing his case being denied a retrial. Of course, she asks if he will appeal, but he is uncertain of his next steps because if denied, he would have to wait another year.
A new lawyer at the firm Dan works for says he wants to use his brain to help him with the case. On his way out, he asks him to tell the real story of him and Alex one day, pissing Dan off.
Who joins Mike in the hunt for Alex’s killer?
Mike, Detective Earl, and Dan are sitting down and eating lunch. Earl informs him that he read his case file and wonders who they think did it. While thoroughly convinced that Dan did it, Earl says that if he didn’t, he needs to see it for himself, so Mike convinces him to join him on the hunt.
Stella confronts Ellen because someone leaked confidential information to the college, and now she’s been kicked out of school. So, Beth decides to have dinner inviting over Dan and Mike while Arthur is slightly uncomfortable at the table. He is a supportive husband.
While this dinner happens, we get a montage of the past of Arthur with his ex-wife, that passed away.
Arthur arrives at Alex’s apartment building to pretend he is working on something. We see him break into her apartment and snoop around. Later that night, as Arthur is taking care of his wife, he gets a call from Beth crying about the case.
Because of this, he sets off to help her. After this happens, we hear Alex freaking out on the phone to her dad over what Dan had said after he left her house. He tells her to pack her stuff and head to his house, and they will figure it out.
Who killed Alex?
As she is packing her stuff, we see Arthur enter the apartment and grab her in a chokehold. We see Alex fighting for her life, trying to get herself out of it, but ultimately, he chokes her to death, or so he thinks. We see her open her eyes and slowly crawl to her phone, but Arthur grabs a weight and hits her over the head, officially killing her. So after seven episodes of build, we find out Arthur is the one who killed Alex.
Fatal Attraction Season 1 Ending Explained
After dinner, Ellen tells Dan she never wants him to give up on his appeal. She hugs him, showing an emotion that he hasn’t gotten much from her since getting out of jail.
Present-day Ellen is editing an audio file from her professor while we see the meeting between Alex and young Ellen, where she breaks down a rule of thumb about who you should trust and who you can’t.
The season ends with her professor walking into the room, asking why Ellen is in her house. Ellen looks at him and says, “It looks like you are mad at me,” and the credits roll.
I have massively mixed feelings about this ending. While I don’t hate the reveal of the murderer, they do leave it open-ended for a second season which I’m not sure I do like. The entire Ellen story is weird to me because she is an awful lot like Alex, and that’s whatever, but why? I believe the creators are banking on a second season which I hope we get cause I got questions.
What did you think of Fatal Attraction Season 1 Episode 8 and the Ending? Comment below.
The ending also left me confused because Dan didn’t appear to mistreat his daughter or emotionally abuser as Alex’s father abused her. We could see is Alex is growing up that her father becomes more and more abusive in different ways and it’s taking a toll on Alex. But we see Dan never abused his daughter emotionally or physically so I don’t see why that ending would come out that way.
The ending is confusing. The whole series of episodes kept going back and forth, and it made we wonder where are we in this story. It wasn’t a well written story bc it lacks consistency and logic as to what is really happening. If there is a Season 2, hopefully the story will be better developed.
I really love this show. It does have a number of layers to sift through, and the last episode was confusing. I don’t know why Ellen is in her professor’s house. No idea at all. Does anyone else? I feel like I missed something. Is she mad at her friend for having an affair with her professor? Is that why she had her kicked out of school? I was relieved to see who the actual killer was finally though.
creepy ending. i started to question Ellens character after she rats out her friend, but still l pm didn’t see this coming. Obviously they want a second season. Ellen, who we now think is much like Alex is not stable and both had father issues. Alex was emotionally abused and Ellen was abandoned by Dan. Interesting, I guess season 2 will be more about Ellen!
If there is another season count me out. I suffered through this one and I’m done. I wasn’t a big fan of the movie either though but I liked this version a little better. The whole Ellen story was confusing and I see now it was to draw interest in hopes of another season. There are too many other options out there that are better choice for me.
Can u let the fans no asecond season or not pkease
It says there’s another episode on June 4th, is this true?? I don’t care for how it ended. It’s very confusing seeing that Ellen was never abused by her parents or are they leaving that part out for season 2? In which Ellen was abused by Arthur…
Ending sucked.
What the heck? While it’s great to find out the true killer is Arthur, why is Ellen a nutcase????
Did NOT see that coming! Season 2 on the horizon huh?
LOVE LOVE LOVE this version of Fatal Attraction! I loved the movie and love this more in depth version. I can totally understand how Ellen would have relationship and trust issues similar to Alex due to the trauma of the trial and losing her father. I hope there is another season!
I’m disappointed in the ending. I do remember when Alex was in one of her therapy sessions, her therapist stated i need you to know I’m not mad at you before they ended the session because Alex had left several messages for her therapist asking her was she mad at her. Then Ellen asks that of the professor. Is there a connection there? It’s just odd how it ended! I am however glad to know who killed Alex, but was hoping Arthur would step up and admit to it while at dinner. I have mixed emotions of a possible 2nd season. Ellen’s character was all over the place and stuck into weird spots in the movie. Her friend from college seemed to have no real basis in the movie. That character made no sense to me.
Ending Sucked!!
The ending was disappointing. Why is Ellen now like Alex? I understand why Alex has mental issues but, Ellen too now. Unless Ellen’s trauma was Dad being taken to jail and him cutting all contact. Are the writers showing us the damage this did to her that no one noticed? Or are the writers implying that there is more then one Fatal Attraction? Or both? I really liked this series actually more then the movie but, the ending was not great. I hope there is a 2nd season to answer many loose ends. Loved Joshua Jackson in The Affair and in Fatal Attraction as well.
Like, I kinda figured out that Arthur was the killer in maybe episode 4 or 5, Alex is clearly Borderline Personality Disorder. But, Ellen is a sociopath! And, Arthur is just a lovesick puppy. Bur, Ellen is really going on to be a killer. I can’t decide if she is a psychopath or a sociopath because she exhibits care. But, she is deeply troubled.
I was really hooked on this series, loved the original movie,Ending was so disappointing , crazy.o,will not be watching the 2nd season.
