The Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 premiere did not hold back in terms of shock and excitement. Picking up right where season 4 left off, fans were thrown right back into the excitement and chaos as members of the Armed Detective Agency continue to fight to prove their innocence.
Despite how much new information there was for viewers to follow, it all paid off in the end, as it was revealed that Dazai (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) had bought Ranpo (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) all the time he needed to devise a plan.
Now fans can only hope Ranpo’s plan helps to fully clear The Armed Detective Agency’s name before it’s too late.
- Kunikida lies in a prison hospital.
- On the news, he sees a story about terrorist attacks using counterfeit coins from the Sky Casino.
- Jono visits Kunikida and offers him a chance at innocence if he joins the Hunting Dogs to help take down the Armed Detective Agency.
- Kunikida refuses, and Jono seems to understand but still mentions that Kunikida will likely never be able to use his ability again anyway since his hands have been amputated.
- Lucy asks Atsushi and the team what the new plan is now, but no one seems to have any answers.
- Suddenly Atsushi faints.
- As he leaves, Jono informs Kunikida that Yosano’s execution is set for that same day as a sniper targets him from a nearby building.
- Sigma wakes up on the ground, and Nikolai informs him that he saved his life.
- Sigma wonders how and why Nikolai lived when he was supposed to die, which Nikolai says is true until he decided to kill Fyodor instead by using Sigma’s ability to determine Fyodor’s abilities.
- Thinking Atsushi is being held hostage by someone’s ability, Ango decides he must shoot him to save the lives of millions.
- Suddenly Atsushi wakes up and says he knows where the notebook page is thanks to Sigma’s ability.
- Atsushi reveals that Kamui from The Decay of Angels has the page.
- Kunikida dodges a bullet from the sniper, only to see the sniper was really aiming for the lock on his cell door to allow Kamui to break him out and attempt to assassinate him.
- A Decay of Angels member kidnaps Yosano on her way to be executed. Attempts are then made on the lives of multiple Armed Detective Agency members.
- Ranpo saves Fukuzawa by “kidnapping” him disguised as a Decay of Angels member. He then reveals he has done the same for all of the other Agency members as well.
- Ranpo speaks at a press conference and plays a video.
- He reveals that he has already sent evidence of the Agency’s innocents to all major law enforcement agencies and also reveals the existence of the reality-altering notebook page.
- As Ranpo is arrested, he asks the police to really think about the truth behind what is happening.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 Episode 2 Release Date and Time
Season 5, Episode 2, will be released on Crunchyroll on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. ET. Episode 2 is titled “The Answer to Everything” and will have a run time of approximately 23 minutes.

With a new season comes new predictions, but of course, Bungo Stray Dogs never makes it easy. With all the crazy new information we learned in the premiere, let’s see if we can make any accurate guesses about what may happen next week.
- Now that Ranpo has sent out all of the information to prove the Agency’s innocence, I have a feeling at least one police agency will take his words seriously and look into the case. However, I have a feeling that thanks to the notebook page, most police will not.
- Knowing Ranpo, he’s already thought ten steps ahead and likely already has a plan in place to escape police custody. I could easily see him getting free again next episode.
