When will Oppenheimer be on Streaming

When will Oppenheimer be on Streaming? We discuss when the hotly anticipated movie will hit streaming platforms and where.

Directed by Christopher NolanOppenheimer is a biopic that explores the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who’s best known for inventing the first atomic bomb.

The film has an all-star lineup, with Cillian Murphy starring as the titular scientist, Matt Damon as Leslie Groves, Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, and Emily Blunt as Kitty Oppenheimer.

It’s well-known that Nolan dislikes streaming. It’s why he decided to part ways with Warner Bros. Discovery, as the studio began to release its films in cinemas the same day they were put onto streaming.

So, anyone wanting to view Oppenheimer at home will be waiting a while.

When will Oppenheimer be on Streaming?

Oppenheimer doesn’t have a streaming release yet, and it will likely stay that way for now. Nolan believes in the value of cinema, so his films are specifically designed to be viewed there.

He’s even used his weight as one of the biggest directors in Hollywood to keep Oppenheimer off streaming for a while. As part of his deal with Universal, the film will get at least 100 days exclusively in cinemas. This means the earliest Oppenheimer could drop onto streaming is October 29.

But this wait might be even longer. The Universal picture, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, became a global box office sensation, meaning it stayed in cinemas to make more money inside the theatrical window. It will land on streaming 120 days after its debut.

If Oppenheimer has a similar box office boom, audiences might be waiting longer before it hits streaming.

Where will Oppenheimer be available to stream?

Oppenheimer will most likely be available to stream on Peacock, which is Universal’s streaming service. The film is unlikely to be on other platforms, so audiences will have to subscribe to see the film at home.

In the UK, Sky and Now customers can access Peacock via a dedicated app, which is how they will be able to watch the film once it comes to streaming platforms.

What is Oppenheimer about?

Oppenheimer is Nolan’s twelfth film and his first biopic. It’s about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of atomic weapons.

The official plot synopsis from Universal reads:

[Oppenheimer] explores how one man’s brilliance, hubris, and relentless drive changed the nature of war forever, led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, and unleashed mass hysteria—the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s role in developing the atomic bomb during World War II.

Nolan’s primary source of information comes from the book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Martin Sherwin and Kai Bird.

After he invented the bomb, Oppenheimer became the chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission and tried to slow down the nuclear arms race between the Soviet Union and the USA. He refused to help develop the even more fearsome hydrogen bomb, something that made him enemies.

He was later branded a communist and removed from all federal duties with his security clearance revoked.

His legacy as the father of the atomic bomb weighs heavily over the world, with over 12,000 nuclear warheads present between at least nine nuclear powers.
