We discuss whether there will be a Season 3 of the Prime Video series The Summer I Turned Pretty and its renewed or canceled status.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is a coming-of-age, romantic drama series from Prime Video. It is based on the trilogy of novels written by the hugely influential author Jenny Han (To All the Boys series), who is also the creator of this adaptation as well.
The second season is set in the aftermath of Belly’s eventful last summer at Cousins Beach. That perfect vacation is now a distant memory. Family friend Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) has passed away since, after a long battle with cancer, and Belly (Lola Tung) is no longer on speaking terms with Susannah’s boys Conrad and Jeremiah.
Her love triangle with the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) might not be over just yet, though, as Belly finds herself drawn back to Susannah’s beach house once again.
Returning to this old haunt, she discovers that Susannah’s holiday home is up for sale. The teens decide to fight back against this injustice and try to stop the sale from going through.
The first season was a huge success for Prime Video, but has the show continued to impress in its second outing, and will the streaming giants be eager to renew the series for a third season, or is this the end of The Summer I Turned Pretty?
Will there be a Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty – renewed or canceled status
Prime Video has renewed The Summer I Turned Pretty for a third season. This means that the extremely popular series will be returning for a third outing to continue Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah’s story just as Jenny Han had originally planned.
The Summer I Turned Pretty has been a tremendously impactful series for Prime Video, garnering huge ratings and massive fan recognition. The first season alone saw a resurgence in Jenny Han’s book sales, and the music featured in the show also went on to a renewed success, especially for Taylor Swift and her Lover album.
The second season has been just as successful as the first, becoming one of the most-watched seasons on Prime Video. It can be currently found in Prime Video’s top ten charts as well, although the critics’ response wasn’t as encouraging.
Rotten Tomatoes gave the second season 62%, and the audience score is currently at 63%. While on IMDB, it holds an overall rating of 7.4 out of 10. The individual episode ratings for season two have been pretty consistent with season one’s on IMDB, too (August 7th, 2023).
Regardless of these reviews or opinions, the show will be returning for a third season, just as Jenny Han intended. The novels were split into a trilogy of books, so it only seems right that the show is given three seasons as well.
Apparently, the renewal was confirmed before the actors’ and writers’ strikes, although this announcement only went public in August 2023.
Production on The Summer I Turned Pretty season three will only begin once these strikes have been resolved. It is currently unclear when this will happen, though.
As always, we will keep you posted on any updates regarding the release date of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.
Sure would hate to see it end here! That would be a horrible ending to a very good show.
