Justified: City Primeval is an FX adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, and an eight-years-later revival of the original Justified, one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
Whether this was ill-advised or right on time remains to be seen, however, Timothy Olyphant has slipped back into the stetson like he never took it off. With a new case to solve in a new city full of cops and robbers, Raylan Givens, for better or worse, is back.
Here’s where we’re at after Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 5:
- Raylan and Carolyn did end up spending the night together, and they enjoy a fair amount of flirtatious conversations and driveway kissing in this episode.
- Raylan’s “date” with Carolyn is interrupted by Jamal, and we learn that he’s still ripping her off for alimony despite living with another woman. This has left Carolyn broke, and at the end of the episode she decides to team up with Sweetie and Clement to extort someone as-yet-unknown in order to secure Judge Guy’s former position.
- In the meantime, Clement and Sweetie extort Bulldozer Burt, a real estate developer, but it’s clear that Clement won’t settle for what he’s offering and will continue to push for more.
- Raylan met Raymond Cruz, the protagonist of the novel the show is based on whose role in the story he has basically assumed.

Justified: City Primeval Episode 6 is slated to air on Tuesday, August 15, on FX, at 10 p.m. ET.
