The Afterparty Season 2 is the much-anticipated follow-up to a surprise Apple TV+ hit. Like the TV equivalent of Knives Out and Glass Onion, the show takes an old-school Agatha Christie-style whodunit and gives it a contemporary makeover, with the key gimmick here being that the testimony of each unreliable narrator — all played by a murderer’s-row of acting talent — is presented in a different genre and style.
The plot of the second season revolves around the murder of a tech billionaire at his own wedding, and the prime suspects include his new wife and her relatives. Those relatives include Zoe (Zoe Chao) from the first season and her now-boyfriend Aniq (Sam Richardson), and before long former Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) has arrived to get to the bottom of things.
Here’s what happened in The Afterparty Season 2 Episode 6:
- This episode was centered on why Danner left the police force. It was narrated by Danner herself and took the form of a 90s erotic thriller, fittingly guest-starring Michael Ealy.
- Ealy was playing a therapist who had been working with a pyromaniac suspected of committing multiple arsons. Danner begins an ill-advised sexual relationship with him.
- In the end, Danner deduces that Quentin is guilty and has been using Leonard as a patsy for his own crimes. She is almost killed in a fire when she confronts Quentin, but is saved by Culp.
- Quentin is able to escape and Danner blames herself, which leads to her quitting the force.
- In the present day, Danner relates this story to how Aniq is too close to Edgar’s murder because of his relationship with Zoe. He can’t see the forest for the trees.
- Travis gets high on Devil’s Trumpet tea to determine how easy it is to make a poisonous concoction from the flower. All that’s required is hot water and a teapot.
- Zoe discovers a teapot in Grace’s room and hides the evidence, suspecting she might be guilty.
