It’s another prime example of the Foundation’s best and worst traits. The show includes some spellbinding scenes and storylines but is consistently bogged down by cliched fight sequences and pretentious, complex writing. Here’s what happened in Foundation Season 2, Episode 9:

  • Brother Dusk and Rue are told about Lady Demerzel’s history. She was found by a young Cleon in a hidden chamber. He gave Demerzel her freedom, but at a cost. She is forced to protect Empire and his dynasty. Brother Dusk and Rue are then imprisoned.
  • Salvor helps Gaal escape from the Mentalics. Tellem and Loron attack their ship though.
  • Brother Day prepares for war on Terminus. He meets with Sef Sermak. The Director shows Day around Hari’s church, which is actually a workshop for futuristic technology. Day is embarrassed by their advances and decides to start a war anyway.
  • Bel and Glawen fight against the Invictus ship in Terminus’ orbit. Glawen manages to defeat Invictus. Glawen crash lands on Terminus after his victory.
  • Day plans to leave, but heads to the Vault first, where he meets with Hari. They try to negotiate an end to the war, but neither side will surrender. Day is told about Invictus and plans to destroy it entirely.
  • Demerzel is ashamed of Day’s actions and leaves for Trantor.
  • Hari returns to Ignis to save Gaal and Salvor. Salvor kills Loron and Hari kills Tellem.
  • Day orders Bel to destroy the Invictus, even though his lover is on Terminus. Glawen and Bel say their goodbyes. Bel gives the orders and Invictus is destroyed. It falls towards the planet’s surface.
  • The ship crash lands on Terminus, causing the planet to implode. Day watches with a beaming smile on his face.

  • Hari has returned to Ignis and rescued Gaal and Salvor. The trio will head for Trantor to bring an end to Brother Day’s tyranny.
  • Hober Mallow and Brother Constant have just watched Terminus be destroyed. They will plot their revenge as well.

    “consistently bogged down…pretentious, complex writing”
I find writers who use the word “pretentious” to be pretentious. Writers are especially pretentious when they make accusations of pretentiousness without providing a single specific example.
