LaKeith Stanfield brings humanity and depth to the series, making it an addictive watch overall. Here’s what happened in The Changeling Season 1, Episode 3:
- Apollo is chained up in his apartment by a deranged Emma. She knocks him out with a hammer and then kills her son.
- After this appalling incident, Apollo was sent to intensive care, and Emma went missing. Apollo bought a gun and went to the library, demanding to know where Emma was. This little rampage landed him three months in prison.
- On his release, Apollo is sent to a support group where he opens up about the ordeal.
- Apollo offers Patrice his To Kill a Mockingbird book. Patrice and Lillian worry about Apollo’s safety; he seems suicidal.
- Lillian cleans Apollo’s apartment and tries her best to be supportive. Apollo tells Lillian about his dreams. Lillian confesses that there is a reason for these recurring dreams.
- In flashbacks, the story unravels. Lillian had to work on Saturdays and left her 4-year-old son alone at home. One day, Apollo’s dad visited. This then infiltrated into his dreams. Lillian admits that the father still wanted to be involved in Apollo’s life.
- Apollo blames Lillian for all this mess, stating that he needed his father. He is hurt that she deprived him of that. Lillian urges Apollo to visit Brian’s grave.
- At the support group, a woman tells a story very similar to Emma’s. Apollo worries that she’ll kill her baby too. An attendee called William admits that he is only there to buy Apollo’s book.
- At a diner, they discuss the book and the deranged woman. They replay the footage of her outburst. She mentions the Wise Ones and Cal. The Wise Ones were witches. Apollo joins the dots between the witches and Emma’s trip to Brazil.

- Apollo will continue to investigate the Wise Ones and the person called Cal. It seems pretty obvious now that the Wise Ones and the Wise Moms are linked. Emma was communicating with this group before the ordeal and bought chains from them.
- Apollo will start to unravel this mystery, finding out the truth about what happened to Emma and her current whereabouts. He needs closure and answers from Emma desperately.
- William will continue to berate Apollo for the book. Apollo and Patrice will agree to a price. William will buy the book but continue to help them with their investigation.
