Our lovable trio of podcasting sleuths parted ways in the previous episode after a rather personal argument. In “CoBro,” the trio tries to move forward without their old friends on separate paths.
Oliver (Martin Short) recasts Charles’ (Steve Martin) role, Mabel (Selena Gomez) partners up with a new trio, and Charles struggles to make any headway on the case on his lonesome.
It’s another well-written installment featuring some clever clues, many witty one-liners, and a superb guest spot from Matthew Broderick. Here’s what happened in Only Murders in the Building Season 3, Episode 7:
- Charles goes to the diner alone, starting a conversation with Uma. She reveals that she has Ben’s missing handkerchief, which she stole from the crime scene.
- Oliver recasts Charles’ role in the musical, but all of the auditions go terribly. The producers bring in Matthew Broderick, who is amazing. Matthew then spends the whole day rehearsing and building upon his character.
- Mabel packs up her things at the apartment. Theo helps her out. He mentions that Ben’s brother, Dickie is hosting an auction in the penthouse upstairs. They go to interrogate the brother.
- Uma sells the handkerchief to Dickie.
- Dickie explains to Mabel how Ben always stole all the credit. Dickie is clearly bitter and jealous of Ben’s fame. Dickie thinks Gregg is the killer, as he was spotted in the building when Ben was killed.
- Mabel and Theo find further proof that Gregg is innocent and that Dickie could be the killer. With Tobert’s help, they prepare for the first recording of their new podcast.
- Matthew’s intense behavior drives Oliver crazy. He fires Matthew and rehires Charles. Oliver and Charles discuss the murder case and the missing hankie. They decide to use Loretta’s mystery book of news clippings as a peace offering to win back Mabel’s trust.
- They go to her apartment, but Mabel has already moved out. She posts the teaser trailer for her new podcast, using the trio’s old podcast name.
- The police listen to Mabel’s teaser and decide to reopen the case.
Only Murders in the Building Season 3 Episode 8 Release Date and Time
Episode 8 will be released on Hulu on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, at 12 a.m. ET. Episode 8 is titled “Sitzprobe” and will have a run time of 39 minutes.

Predictions
- The latest suspect seems to be Dickie, one of my main contenders from the very beginning. Again, it would seem that Dickie is unlikely to be the killer, though. He may have just bought Ben’s handkerchief as a way of remembering his brother. While the motives are strong, they do not specifically mean murder.
- Loretta seems to have taken a back seat in the last few installments. Charles and Oliver have the book of news clippings and a strong motive for the actress. Will they take their findings to Mabel after all?
- I imagine Charles and Oliver will confront Mabel about her podcast teaser trailer, hurt that she has worked behind their backs and used the same podcast name again.
