Recap – Suits S7E8: “100”

100. Yes, that is how many episodes of Suits we have watched, and whilst I am surprised it has lasted this long, it has to be acknowledged that shows like this do not come to the surface often and survive. Shows that attach themselves to characters that think too highly of themselves are often accused of being cheesy, overly dramatic and generic. Suits somehow survived any accusation, and it has become a law drama sensation when really it is not about law. It is about family and relationships.

Season 7, episode 8, “100”, did not just represent the anniversary. It represented how quickly scenarios can escalate. Louis Litt’s suggestive phone sex with Sheila threw me into a fit of giggles. He is the only character that can somehow get excited at the prospect of a one night stand and be stressed about it at the same time. Surprisingly, Rachel indirectly endorsed Louis to have sex with someone who was about to get married. I guess the moral compass is dependent on the objective of the episode. Speaking of Rachel, her lack of engagement so far in this season has been odd. Are there plans to let her go? I did suggest it in another recap that time on her relationship with Mike maybe over. The couple is always at a crossroads over something consequential that it almost feels unrealistic that they will weather every storm.

Recap – Suits S7E7: “Full Disclosure”

For the past few weeks I have toyed with the idea that I may disengage from Suits for good. It was maybe slightly premature to think about disowning the series after seven seasons but the shaky start was concerning.

Ironically, something wonderful happened. Suits truly returned in “Full Disclosure”.

Okay, so I know that last week I declared that “Suits is back” but I also said it was almost there. Episode seven brought to the surface a plot worth discussing. Considering the episode is titled “Full Disclosure”, it bobbed and weaved to avoid any reveal for the entire forty minutes. It was intentional of course, because last week Harvey demanded that Alex speak the truth after he desperately blocked any attempt for Mike to pursue the prison case.  Despite my hesitations with Mike recently, he really strives for respect from the audience because he single handedly lays down the iron with zero help. He will do what is morally right, even if it means going against Harvey. “Full Disclosure” is constructed in a way that you have no choice but to care about Mike, with Harvey clearly reminding us that the young lawyer went to prison for him. Make no mistake, these two are either going to end the season with the usual bromance or end up in flames next to a gas pipe. Selfishly, for plot reasons, I want them to be at loggerheads. Even if it was just for one season just to see how the dynamics between the rest of the characters would work.

Recap – Suits S7E4: “Divide and Conquer”

Expect plenty of spoilers in this recap.

“Divide and Conquer” seamlessly continues from the previous episode. The shackles are still off, Harvey has zero control, and Louis proceeds to roll with his hilarious facial expressions. The beginnings of this show started as a serious legal drama. Now it is leaning towards a fanciful soap opera. Suits know its audience loves the characters and it’s slowly becoming a guilty pleasure rather than something you tell the cool kids about.

The family is slowly reforming with the help of a familiar face. Jessica’s reoccurring guest-like appearances almost makes you think she wants to fully return to the show. Harvey makes it clear that he misses her but he clearly needs the guidance to build the firm back up to its former reputation. Episode 4 demonstrates that the challenge is a mountain even for Harvey, and you suspect he will need plenty of help for the remainder of season 7. Jessica’s reveal in the final segments, that she divided the group on purpose, was an obvious cliffhanger. I felt the utmost disappointment for not foreseeing it. It is easy to forget her tactical nature to turn personalities against each other for her own gain, especially after she left an empty void. Will Harvey be able to continue eventually without guidance?
