Amazon Prime Series Undone Season 1, Episode 1 - The Crash

Undone Season 1, Episode 1, ‘The Crash’ speaks to our dying, self-entitled generation, and ends with a twist that will surely define the rest of the story.

This recap of Amazon Prime Series Undone Season 1, Episode 1, “The Crash” contains significant spoilers.

I can relate to Alma (voiced by Rosa Salazar). The lead character in Amazon Prime Series Undone speaks plain and straightforward. Her life is one laborious routine; wake up, wash, commute to work and eat the same s–t. Episode 1, “The Crash” articulates the rat race our generation are routinely getting trapped in. The pressure to have a job, make money, be the best socially, and imagine yourself based on your parent’s expectations — resigning yourself to a life based on other people’s judgements. Alma has not focused on the truer currency — happiness.

And Episode 1 sees Alma at the pinnacle of her dismantled existence. Her sister Becca has just got engaged to a reasonably wealthy man, yet Alma she is so unsure of her boyfriend that she repeatedly hints to him that she does not intend to settle down. The break-up in the 22-minute chapter was apparent. Alma’s problems go more in-depth, with a fragmented relationship with her mother, attempting to spoil the engagement party organized for Becca by drawing a moustache on her face. Alma only appears happier when drunk but also destructive.

Basking in her sister’s glory of the recent engagement, Alma decides to get her sister super-drunk, but this time they jokingly trade roles; Alma is engaged for one night, convincing the barman to come back to their house to play drinking games. Alma asks Becca and the barman to kiss, and when they start going heavy with the kissing, she goes to the bathroom, takes her hearing aide out, throws up, and cries at the side of the toilet.

The next day, Alma and Becca have a serious argument; Alma claims that she and Becca are broken, but her sister resists that notion. Upset, Alma drives off, but as she speeds away, what looks like a ghost version of her father appears at the side of the road with a cigarette in his mouth. Undone Season 1, Episode 1, “The Crash” ends with Alma involved in a severe car accident, distracted by what she saw.
