Episode 3 of Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates carries the same weight as the previous chapter. It divulges into Bill’s personal life while reverting to the present day, analyzing one of his pet world-saving projects, TerraPower.

Episode 3 enjoyed getting into the crux of Bill’s early-life career when Microsoft blew up into a force to be reckoned with. It details how Bill was a man that dreamed of being seen as a visionary, becoming the forefront of software technology.

But like all innovators and billionaires, that money brings scrutiny. The “boom” days of Microsoft were met with court challenges and protests. Bill Gates was seen as a monopolizer, not a genius. Small, medium and large tech companies put cases to Government, claiming Microsoft’s aggressive market growth purposefully prevented others from competing due to being drowned out by their economic force.

This is nothing new — with macro success comes a sense of responsibility. Mark Zuckerberg is a present-day example. Big Data has forced him to answer to Facebook’s problems with Data Protection, and sit in front of Senators and answer difficult questions. Elon Reeve Musk is regularly in the press for various reasons, and this is while he attempts to find resources to make space travel cost-effective.

Episode 3 suggests Bill Gates went through the same in his past, while also colliding scenes with his progress on TerraPower — a sustainable and economic nuclear energy system that would rid the Earth’s need of any fossil fuels and rid the risk of sourcing nuclear energy. The documentary highlights the horrors of Chernobyl and the disaster in Japan as the cornerstone to Bill’s motivations.

But amongst all the information thrown at us in Episode 3, we get insight into Bill and Melinda’s blossoming relationship, and how his relentless work to build an empire was seen to hurt Melinda, and how they managed to work through the issues despite bringing children into the world. It also questions whether Bill overshadowed Melinda as part of their foundation — Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates strongly suggests Melinda has a 50% say in the dealings of their philanthropy work.

The most shocking moment is provided when Bill Gates is splattered with cake plates during the height of his scrutiny — loved and hated by many, but regardless, he changed the world of technology.

Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates Episode 3 ends with a Donald Trump angle; TerraPower nearly had an agreement with a business in China, after approval from the American government, but after recent trade wars and rhetoric dealt by the current President, Bill’s project is momentarily put on hold as there’s not a possibility of an agreement while tension is present.

Bill is asked if his projects are worth continuing to fight for — his response is, “try harder”.
