Episode 3 centres around the horrors of deportation. Living Undocumented is providing a timeline for the viewers, beginning with the fear of getting found, to the reality sinking in of returning to a country that does not serve your best interests.

Alejandra is deported in Episode 3, and she takes on the day gracefully, ensuring the media show up so she can explain her story. It’s incredible how much Donald Trump harps on about his love for military families, yet here we have an account about a military man’s wife getting deported to Mexico where her life is in danger. Alejandra speaks about her misfortunes under the new ICE policies, and her daughter, who has to join her, breaks down in front of the cameras. It’s not an easy watch.

As for Luis, he is finally released on a bond. His status in America is now under threat and he is at risk of being deported back to his native country of Honduras. His attornies are going to argue that Luis needs to seek asylum due to the danger to his life. Luis has tattoos, which is signaling for various gang warfare in Honduras, so he would likely be in danger as soon as he sets foot in the airport. His main concern is his girlfriend Kenia and son Noah, who are planning on making a dangerous trek back to the USA. Kenia is pregnant, and you can sense the anxiety growing in Luis’s demeanor

We are also introduced to Vinny in Episode 3, a man that had a legal status to remain in the USA, however, after landing himself in trouble and spending time in jail for 12 years, ICE has him on the deportation list. Vinny has managed to ingrain himself into an American community and start a family. This is a strange scenario, as ICE is unable to deport him immediately due to his country not having an agreement with America for deportations. Vinny fears that he will be held for months in an ICE detention center until they can reach an agreement to send him to his home country.

Living Undocumented Season 1 Episode 3, “The Deportation” continues to highlight the suffocating system.
